Fashion After 40

With so many designers and trends targeting the svelte body
of the twenty-something, is it possible to look fashionable
as the years pass and your body begin to tell the tale?

Absolutely!

In fact, with a little ingenuity and sleigh-of-hand, it's
easy to be fashionable and stylish regardless of how many
candles are on your birthday cake.

Now let's be frank: unless you work out religiously, you
probably do not have the same body at 40, 50, or 60 that you
did at 25. Time, gravity, and pregnancy all take their toll
on the female body, as does menopause. And when you mix a
mature body with fashions obviously made for a younger
person, it can lead to self-doubt, frustration, and
confusion.

But it does not have to be that way. Getting older also
means getting wiser, and like a fine bottle of wine, you're
improving with age. So you do not have the same body as
those twenty-somethings you see in magazines or on TV. So
what? Would you REALLY trade everything you've learned
Since your twenties for the body you had back then?
Probably no sooner than you'd like to re-live puberty,
thank you very much.

So how can you be fashionable without wearing all those
body-conscious clothes so en vogue these days? By
remembering the "3 C's" when you dress: clean, classic, and
coverage.

CLEAN

Clean lines create a clean silhouette which makes the body
appear more youthful by skimming the trouble spots instead
of calling attention to them. Complicated cuts, seams, and
details usually call for a killer body to pull off, so if
you have not got it, steer clear of those styles.

CLASSIC

Classic styles are called classic because they remain in
style year after year. Why? Because they look good on so
many bodies! Sheathes, A-line skirts, flat front pants –
all tend to flatter a variety of shapes. What's more,
because they remain in style year after year, classics are
easier on the budget than trends.

COVERAGE

Covering approbably is the key to aging gracefully. If
your upper arms, thighs, and décolletage have all seen
better days, it's time to cover them up a bit instead of
sharing the wear-and-tear with the world. Now I'm not
talking about draping yourself in a tent for the rest of
your life. Far from it. I'm talking about wearing short
sleeves instead of going sleeveless, Capris instead of
shorts, and modest necklines instead of plunging necklines.

Now I know that covering up the parts that used to turn
heads and draw envy can be tough to take for some women.
Which is precisely why beautiful jewelry and fine fabrics
are the revenge tools of choice for many well-dressed
mature women.

So your bustline is not as perky as your twenty-something
daughter or granddaughter. So what? Add a beautiful
necklace and draw envious glances from women of all ages.
Do not have the same backside you did as a teen? Encase it
in a fine fabric and see how many men go out of the way to
hold the door open for you. People will look where you
focus their attention, so use that knowledge to redirect
their interest to the parts you want them to see.

Or, as actress Cybil Shepard once said, "I like to flaunt
what I have left. "

Do not flip through fashion magazines and bemoan the fact
that you do not look like the models. Instead, look at the
various fashion elements to determine what will and will not
work for you. Are printed scarves all the rage this year?
Grab a few and be trendy. Are mini skirts the style of
choice? Pass and bank your money.

See how easy this is?

"A woman has the age she deserves," Coco Chanel once said.
You do not have to go under cover and dress "like a little
old lady "just because that's what your mother or
grandmother did. You're your own person.

If you remember to dress in clean lines and classic styles
and cover appropriately, you can still be fashionable – AND
draw long, lingering glances from handsome men – whatever
your age. And if THAT does not make you feel like a
blushing girl again, then honey, nothing I can say will!

What Made Native American Peoples Vulnerable to Conquest by European Adventurers?

What made Native American peoples vulnerable to conquest by European adventurers?

There were several traits which made the Native American’s vulnerable to conquest by European adventurers. First, the people themselves were ill equipped to deal with the European invaders. Their numbers were quickly reduced as a result of famine, forced labor, epidemics involving contact with European diseases and wars.

They were unaccustomed to the economic, political and military aspects associated with the Europeans. They lacked the organization and political unity to resist the conquering people. The various tribes were frequently in conflict with one and other as they went about their daily lives competing with each other for land and food. As an example over the years the Aztecs accumulated many enemies especially within their own tribe. This conflict resulted from competition for territorial rights, acquisition of wealth and the practice of using their captive enemies as religious sacrifices. Cortés exploited this trait by forming alliances with the opposing tribes. In contrast to the Aztecs lack of unity the Spanish explorers were a highly unified society.

The Native Americans possessed the necessary skills to work with copper but failed to develop those needed to smelt iron thus they lacked sufficient technology to wage war upon the invaders. When the Europeans arrived in the New World they were welcomed by the Native Americans. The Indians regarded their visitors as wonderful warriors with their dress, beards, and their ships but more so for the technology they brought with them. The native population was amazed at this technology such as their steel knives and swords, the arquebus which is a sort of muzzle loader, the cannon, copper and brass kettles, mirrors, hawk bells and earrings which were used as trading goods, along with other items which were unusual to their way of life. This was rightfully so since the natives lacked the ability to create these amazing inventions used by the Europeans. Unfortunately the European visitors used their weapons of war inflicting great amounts of damage to the natives.

It did not take long before serious problems began to develop. Upon the arrival of the Europeans there were 7 million Native Americans in North America. Most lived in hunter-gather or agricultural types of communities. The largest problem encountered by the Native Americans was their lack of immunity toward European diseases. This lack of immunity in these communities towards the European diseases took their toll among the Indian tribes. Smallpox was a common threat frequently contracted by the Indians from the European people.

The Native Americans soon began to dislike the Europeans and their beliefs. They often viewed the white man as despicable and stingy with their wealth. This was something that the Indians had not previously encountered. In their social order things were freely shared. The explorers were deemed to be insatiable in their desire for furs and hides. They particularly disliked the European’s intolerance for their religious beliefs, eating habits, sexual and marital arrangements and other aspects of their customs.

The Native Americans were used to being in tune with the spirit of nature but to the Europeans nature was an obstacle in their path. They viewed the gifts of nature as an endless supply of resources such as the forest having an abundance of timber, a beaver colony possessing unlimited pelts and the buffalo with many robes. To the explorers even the Native American’s were deemed a resource ripe for religious conversion or as a means of free labor.

The Low-Down on This Summer's Shades

It looks like there is a worldwide plot to alter trends in sunglasses on a nearly yearly basis. It fails of course, but sometimes something that should have never been in the first place becomes a trend through sheer persistence. Growing up we had a drawer in our house that held nothing but sunglasses of every size, shape and color. My parents finally sold that house and while moving them recently we rediscovered the drawer. Inside was a fifty year history of sunglasses in America. My sisters inspected each pair recalling who they belonged to and what vacation they were from or what boy they were dating at the time. My two daughters were of course ecstatic and gleefully picked out the ones they wanted, which was nearly all of them.

Back then only a few designers had gotten into the sunglasses game. We of course had Ray-Bans and Oakleys, which cost plenty, but there were no Dior, Gucci or Armani sunglasses to be found when I was growing up. Today you can not throw a stick in an optometrist's office without hitting a dozen designer frames. I'm not so vain that I will only wear the latest fashions, but if I'm dropping some money on a pair I prefer to get something that's at least in style right now.

Oversized sunglasses are still in for better or worse. I tried a few frames by Gucci and Prada and laughed because some were so big they looked more like a mask than sunglasses. No, I do not have an especially small face. Like all designer trends, they've taken a step closer to ridiculous in an attempt to be unique. What is new is the variety of lens shapes and colors. I still can not look at them without thinking of Charlie's Angels.

Aviator glasses are also still in, but have an elementone some kind of fashion inflected mutation. Double frames, rose tinted gradient lenses, oh my. These have never been my go to as they just look like dude glasses. It does not matter how well you do your hair, how sexy you dress or even how red your lipstick is, you still look like you're wearing your brother's sunglasses.

Of course cat eye sunglasses are back because they're fabulous. I'm hoping this is a style that never goes away and even if it does I'm still wearing them until the day I die. I had a pair of black and green Armani's with full tint lenses that made the beach at noon look like the dark side of the moon. I tried to find another pair after mine were lost somewhere between Nassau and Chicago, but they do not sell that model anymore which is horrible.

If you do pick up a new pair of sunglasses this summer, remember not to throw your old ones out. Put them in that drawer with all the others so that someday you can pass them on. Plus you never know, they could come back in style.

Shed That Winter Coat and Get Back Into Your Summer Clothes

Did you gain weight over the winter? If so, you’re not alone; it happened to many people. But don’t fret. Spring is in the air and it’s finally time to shed your winter coat and reverse the winter weight gain. Get off to a good start by checking out the solutions to some all-too-common weight loss challenges.

CHALLENGE: Striving for perfection.

Solution: Every choice you make will not be perfect when it comes to dieting and weight loss. But that’s not necessary for you to reach your goal. Instead, strive to do your best on most days. If (when) you do slip-up, shake it off and get right back on track at your very next meal – or the very next day. And always remember, nobody gains weight from one rich dinner or a single slice of cake. The real trouble starts when you allow that one “splurge” to snowball into an all-out eating frenzy. Take it one meal at a time and learn to forgive yourself; every dieter has slip-ups, but the successful ones know how to keep those occasional lapses contained.

CHALLENGE: Eating breakfast every day.

Solution: Studies show that eating breakfast actually helps weight loss and is associated with better weight control over time. When you eat breakfast, your body feels nourished and satisfied, making you less likely to overeat the rest of the day. Breakfast doesn’t need to be complicated or time consuming – and healthy choices are endless. Make time for a quick and nutritious breakfast such as whole grain cereal, low-fat milk and fresh fruit; all you need is 5 minutes.

CHALLENGE: Staying energized and focused.

Solution: Many of the so-called “health foods” being marketed to people who are trying to lose weight are exactly the opposite of healthy. They are highly processed, filled with artificial ingredients, and lacking in nutrients. It’s no wonder so many people on diets feel fatigued, less focused, and wanting more. One of the best ways to stay satisfied, energized, and on track with your weight loss plan is to eat nutrient-rich foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables; whole grains; legumes such as beans, peas, and lentils; nuts and seeds; and lean meats, poultry and fish. Keep the highly processed foods, convenience foods, and fast foods to a minimum.

CHALLENGE: Dealing with cravings.

Solution: When you feel like eating at a time that is not part of your plan ask yourself the question, “Am I really hungry or is this just a craving?” Hunger is your body’s way of telling you that you need fuel; it’s a physiological response. A craving, on the other hand, is usually triggered by a psychological need. Learn to listen to your body and figure out what it is trying to tell you. See if you can delay eating and ride out the craving. If you can’t, and you find this happening frequently, perhaps you need something other than food. You may want to seek out psychological support.

CHALLENGE: Feeling deprived and tempted to cheat.

Solution: Making a commitment to lose some weight doesn’t mean you need to give up all of your favorite foods. In fact, this approach can actually work against you. Being too strict can lead to feelings of deprivation and this is a sure fire way to set yourself up for a cheat. And once that happens, you’re likely to feel disappointed, discouraged, and ready to quit. Instead of cutting out your favorite foods altogether, eat them in moderation. For example, buy one fresh bakery cookie instead of a whole box. To lose weight, make better choices overall, but don’t completely give up the foods you love.

Choosing The Right Necklace Clasps For Your Pieces

When you are making jewelry you want to choose the right components so that people can wear your items with confidence. You do not want to put the wrong necklace clasps on your items and have your jewelry fall off of the necks of the wearers.

Choosing the right necklace clasps will entail you thinking about the material the item is fashioned from, the type of person, or activities the person that will be wearing it will be engaging in, and the average age of the person that will be wearing the item.

There are five basic types of necklace clasps available for you to choose from. These are:

• The box necklace clasps are usually rectangular in shape, but they may also be square. They have a tongue section that will slide into a groove. These fasteners usually can be opened and closed with only one hand so they are very popular. The real reason for their popularity lies in the fact that they fasten tightly and they are very hard to come undone so people do not lose as many necklaces that have these fasteners. These are great fasteners to place on jewelry you make for children to wear.

• The hook necklace clasps consists of a hook that slips through a link in a chain, or through a ring to form the necklace. They are easy to operate so they are great for the elderly wearer, but they come undone very easily so they are risky for anyone that is going to be active to wear.

• The spring necklace clasps are possibly the most secure of all necklace fasteners. They are made up of two separate rings. One of the rings will have a nub that can be pressed causing the ring to separate so that it can be slipped over the other ring and form a linked bond. They can be tricky to open and close when they are small, but they are secure, and they hold in place when with the jewelry is put under stresses.

• The lobster claw necklace clasps work on the same basic principle that the spring clasps work on. The difference is that the spring clasps have two rings that hook together, and on the lobster clasp there is one oval shaped section with a spring latch that will open when a nub is compressed. Necklaces that have these clasps can be worn when you are engaged in just about any activity because the clasps are secure and hold tightly. These clasps are great for jewelry that will be worn by children and the elderly.

• The toggle necklace clasps consist of a straight bar that fits through a ring. These are designed so that the weight of the necklace will hold the item shut. Necklaces that feature these clasps should be worn when you will not be engaged in strenuous activities. It is very easy for the straight bar to slip out of the ring causing the item of jewelry to fall.

What's the Hype With Coin Collecting? It's Fun

If you are ever wondering what the hype is about with coin collecting then this is the article for you. Coin collecting is a great hobby. It also turns into a business for some. Any variation from a coin that is in regular circulation is collectable. Some of the coins include Quarters and Dimes before 1965. They are made of 90% silver. An easy and very fast way to check for these coins in your wallet or from a bank coin roll is to just look at the side of the coins. If the side is all silver with no copper showing, then it is a silver coin. Be careful with nickels however, because only the 1942 to 1945 nickels are silver. They are 35% silver and checking the sides will not work because they do not have enough copper in them to begin with.

1944 Steal Penny

One of the best finds you could get would be a 1944 steal penny. These penny's are worth between $ 100,000 and $ 200,000. The same is true for the copper 1945 penny. The reason for this is because copper was used for the war to make bullets. They used steal for pennies during 1945 so they are supposedly to be steel. If they are copper when you find a 1945 penny then you have a very rare wheat penny worth a lot of money.

You can use the silver side trick for half dollars as well. Older half dollars are ninety percent silver and semi old Kennedy Half dollars are 30% silver.

You can also go on eBay or coin websites like heritage auctions.com. You can get US coins, International Coins, ancient coins, and more. When you bid on a coin in an auction site. Be sure to make sure that the coin is in at least fine condition. You do not want a coin that is in bad condition because it makes the coin worth less.

Coin Roll Hunting

If you really want something cool to get added to, try going to your local bank. Go to the bank where your checking account is. Ask for rolls of coins! I usually ask for a box of pennies, which is $ 25 worth of pennies or 50 rolls. I also ask for a few dime and nickel rolls. What you'll find will always be a ton of fun. I collect wheat pennies which I find in every other roll usually, Indian Head pennies which in great condition are worth at least $ 10 especially if the word "Liberty" on the headdress band is clear. The 1906 S Indian Head Penny is worth $ 600! It is rare. I've found buffalo nickels which when the dates are legitimate are worth $ 2.00 at least. I found Mercury dimes which show a winged liberty bust of lady liberty and are silver. Also, silver war nickels. Taking out a quarter roll is fun too. You'll find a few silver ones now and then. A 1932 Silver quarter is worth good money. Happy coin hunting!

A Fan’s Checklist Of What To Bring To A NASCAR Race

If you’re planning to attend a NASCAR race, then you can probably expect to spend a day at the track. There’s nothing worse than being unprepared for any outing, so consider a small checklist to make the day a fun-filled event.

  • Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because you will be doing a lot of walking. On a normal day, fans can expect to be at the track for a minimum of five to six hours and, depending on your seat location, there are stairs to climb and you will definitely want to have a comfortable pair of walking shoes.
  • Always bring a small umbrella or rain poncho – just incase those storm clouds decide to roll in during race time. If this should happen, the race will likely be stopped until the rain passes over and the track is dried. You’ll want to be dry while you wait for the race to resume. Purchase the smallest umbrella possible and tuck it in a purse or a pocket. There’s no need to carry a large, bulky umbrella around all day – especially if it ultimately isn’t needed. As a race fan, you’re always hoping for a sunny day, but it’s good to be prepared. If there’s a chill in the air, bring a light jacket.
  • Remember to bring plenty of drinking water. Bottled water is ideal, convenient and really hits the spot on a hot summer day. Keep in mind that racetracks are large and, as mentioned previously, there is a lot of walking involved. From the time that you arrive, climb the stands and find your seat, fans are looking at a potential 30 minute walk or more. Avoid the temptation to poor the water over your head and save it for drinking.
  • A snack is always a good thing to have on hand during raceday. Who wants to leave their seat when a hunger pain hits? Save yourself the time and pack a sandwich or candy bar from home. Don’t forget the hand sanitizer or soap, too!
  • Keeping in mind that attending a live event is different than a televised event is essential. Many of the luxuries of watching at home, on television, are absent at a live event. Sitting in the stands will leave you without the commentary, so consider a scanner and headphones. A list of driver frequencies are available at most tracks, which will enable you to hear the spotter and driver communicate with one another during the race.
  • Be sure to bring a camera and several rolls of film. If you’re using a digital camera, be sure that you have several brand new back-up batteries incase yours runs down through the course of the day.

Before you close that suitcase, there’s just a few more small items to remember. If you have a pit pass, bring along a small notebook for autographs. Consider bringing some cash, but not too much, for a visit to the many souvenir trailers lined outside the track. A final check should reveal that you’ve packed a pair of sunglasses and, if you’re seated high in the stands, grab a pair of binoculars and bring the action up close. After all, if a race isn’t close – what’s the point? Have fun.

A Thorough Survey Before Buying Computer and Accessories Online

Computers are more than just needs, nowadays. We have become so much tech-savvy & dependable, that we need to take the help of the computers in our every single action. But only a buyer knows that a computer alone is not enough. You need to obtain other stuff which are necessary to conjoin with your computer.

The size, shape & price of the accessories of the computer vary depending on their functions. Each of them executes an additional feature that optimizes your computer usage. But as money is related to it, as a buyer, acquiring the accessories on the basis of your immediate requirements needs you to keep some factors in your mind before purchasing any one of them.

Printers: Gone are the days when you had to Xerox your documents out or copy them by yourself. The printer is one of the technical blessings that facilitates this problem. Now you can easily design the layout your valuable documents and make a print out whenever you want. A simple purchase of a good cartridge can save your time & money and helps you to avoid going out to a cyber café each time making the process more hassle-free.

Keyboard: When it comes to computer & accessories, this is the one you can’t avoid. Laptops have by default keyboards, but those who use desktops, know that keyboards are essential. From searching ‘best boots in the world’ to writing your novel, keyboards are the ones you need to click a lot many times. Keyboards have many versions and a keyboard with flexible keys helps you to get accustomed to using it.

Mouse: This tailed stuff is a big ‘yes’ for the desktop users. Mouse adds flexibility to your computer usage and net-surfing and helps to locate your cursor on the screen. However, though most of the users have shifted to laptops for the ease of usage, they still look out for the mouse to make it handy & comfortable.

Scanner: In this age of ‘paperless revolution’, few people opt for printing documents. Most of them go for scanning and sending them through mail or some other wireless service. Students & servicemen are the major users of the scanning machines, who need to scan a huge number of documents. Today, you can find scanner, printer & Xerox in one machine altogether that facilitates the usage and saves time.

Speakers: Nonetheless, speakers are as important as other computer and accessories. With a huge amount of videos, songs & audio files to listen to, speakers are the ones you should need. A speaker with a good sound quality & amenities can help you to get a serene audible experience. A home theater is the extended version of the speakers which fills your home with sound. Speakers give your computers an additional essence and make them loud.

Headphones: With speakers, headphones are needed too. Headphones help to listen to anything individually. They separate your personal experience and prevent them to be shared with others. A headphone with great audible facilities can be proved healthy for your ears.

With the upgrading & experimenting in this field, every day some new accessories are coming up which facilitates the usage day by day.

Does Your Fireplace Make Your House Warmer Or Colder

When you see the picture of the perfect American living room in a home, there’s a cozy room with a couch, recliner and a fireplace burning beautifully. People love to sit by the fireplace watching the flames encircling the logs. Not only does the fireplace add warmth but it adds atmosphere. Unfortunately a fireplace in a home is not perfect. There are many issues that make a fireplace very inefficient.

When a fireplace is burning, it radiates warmth into the air around it. But it also creates a current that actually pulls that air out of your room and up through the chimney. So basically warm air is escaping and your fireplace has to work even harder to warm your room. Yes, there is a damper on a chimney that supposedly keeps the inside air from escaping and the outside air from coming in. But most are not constructed very well and the seal around the edges of the damper still allows air to escape.

There are some things you can do to fix this problem. There is a damper that you can buy which is installed at the top of the chimney. This damper acts like a storm door and has a seal so that the air cannot sneak around it. You can get such a product online and you can install it yourself if you’re comfortable going on top of your roof.

Another option you have is to change your wood burning fireplace into a gas fireplace. You can get a gas fireplace insert which can look just like a regular wood burning fireplace. These heaters have artificial logs that look just like they’re burning. Depending on your home construction and budget, you have several options on how to install and vent the fireplace. Most gas fireplaces use propane or natural gas sources. Many homeowners go with this type of change because they get tired of having to keep cut wood around and disposing of the ashes. A gas fireplace eliminates that need.

You can also replace your fireplace with an electric heater. There are portable electric heaters that look just like fireplaces. You can get an electric fireplace heater that has a fan which can very efficiently heat a whole room quickly. Electric heaters are very efficient in the way that they heat a room. 100% of the electricity that is used is turned into heat and put back out into the room.

Another inconvenience is that the fireplace is usually in the room with the thermostat. The room with the fireplace becomes very warm and the thermostat turns off the heat. This makes rooms in the rest of the home cooler because the fireplace is not heating them. This may cause you to look into getting a portable space heater for other rooms in your home.

The Best Sexual Positions: The Top 5 Mistakes Most Guys Make

One of the many challenges men have is to decide on what positions to use when getting booty. The biggest fears are that the woman will get bored with the “same old, same old” and as a result lose interest in sex. So the question becomes, what are the best sexual positions?

The best way to explain this is to talk about what NOT to do. With that in mind, I’ll now talk about the top five mistakes guys make when it comes to sexual positions, so that way you won’t continue making them.

Position Mistake 1: Imitating anything seen in a porn movie. This is probably the biggest reason that guys fail with sexual positions. Inexperienced guys think porn is a good model because they see studs banging beautiful broads, and… well, they just don’t know any better. The problem is that sexual positions in those sorts of movies are meant to display a good scene for viewers, not to maximize pleasure for the actors.

And in fact, one of the WORST positions for clitoral and vaginal stimulation is when the woman puts her ankles on your shoulders. With her pelvis bent back that far, she can feel pain in her cervix if you push in too far. Plus it’s a position that puts pressure. (If you ever have a chance to go behind the scenes and watch the making of an adult movie, you’ll see how quickly the mood gets killed when the actress keeps having to stop the scene to go to the bathroom!)

Position Mistake 2: Trying too hard to keep your weight off the woman, in any position. To a woman, sex is a way to get closer to her man. She loves it when he leans on the underside of her thighs. So here’s a tip for you to try… Next time you’re having sex with your woman (while you’re engaged in actual intercourse, that is), get more of your weight on her. You see, during sex, almost every woman enjoys feeling her man’s body pressed hard against her.

So how much weight should you put on her? Make it enough so that after you come, and the sexual frenzy dissipates, your woman will tell you that she feels like she’s being smooshed. Of course, do this within limits! If you’re on top off her grinding her pubic bone for too long, it can feel painful for her.

But the bottom line is that many, many women like to be pressured by at least some of the man’s weight. So save the gentlemanly sex for the royal family’s women!

Position Mistake 3: Letting the woman do all the work when she’s on top. For virtually every woman, sex is mostly a passive activity. So by being the motionless beta male, you destroy the whole purpose of sex for her, which is to open herself up to you penetrating into her body.

Position Mistake 4: Being a wimp. A lot of guys have read too many “Men are From Mars”-type books and think women like it if you ask permission for everything and let them take the lead. Be the alpha male instead and just “do it.” Flip her over, move her here and there. Be aggressive and even toss her about like a rag doll when you want to change positions, and… she’ll LOVE it! And don’t worry about it. If something is going on that the woman doesn’t like, she’ll let you know.

Position Mistake 5: Thinking the trickier positions are better. You don’t need to be upside down, hanging from a lamp, and doing something crazy. Just be normal. An old standby like the missionary (man on top, woman lying on her back) can be the best sexual position.

Tricky positions are just frustrating for everybody and often kill the mood because there’s too much “where should I put my arm?”… and not enough “let’s just have fun exploring.”

The Pros and Cons of Secondhand Clothes

Second hand clothes are common among most people. They are especially a favorite among young people due to their low-cost. Many stores specialize purely in second-hand clothes, where people can drop off their clothes. The quality and price of second-hand clothes differs, and it is possible to get them when they are almost as good as new. Many high-end shoppers dispose of their high-end goods after using them for a relatively short time and give them to second-hand dealers, so it is possible to acquire designer goods at very little cost. This article examines the pros and cons of second-hand clothing.

Advantages

Cheap

The biggest advantage of second-hand clothing is that it is cheaper than new clothing. Most second-hand dealers acquire the clothes at little or no cost, and sell them off at a bargain. When you decide to buy second-hand clothing, you will end up saving a lot of money for other uses. They are convenient for parents with small children, because children tend to outgrow their clothes faster than adults do.

Conservational aspect

With respect to environmental conservation, it is better to give off used clothes to second-hand dealers than to dump them in garbage sites. Old clothes are an eyesore when littered around and degrade natural resources. In case the clothes are too worn out, give them out to recycling plants.

Variety

Second hand clothes give you a variety of fashion fads to choose from at a low-cost. You can get access to modern trends from a range of choices with a strained budget. It is possible to acquire a complete set of clothes of relatively high quality.

Disadvantages

Wear and Tear

At the shop, it is possible to overlook some flaws n the clothes before buying. These flaws include running color, loose seams, tears and permanent stains. Often, you end up discovering these flaws after you have bought the item and taken it home.

Skin Diseases

Many people have contracted skin diseases and infections from second-hand clothes. When buying, most people do not clean the clothes thoroughly, and any germs are passed to the new owners. This can be prevented by soaking the clothes in disinfectant before use.

Tiresome

It is exhausting to sort through clothes trying to find the one that is free of flaws. It is also hard to get one size that fits perfectly. However, many have gotten lucky to get good, high quality clothes at throw away prices in second-hand shops. In the end, it makes the whole shopping experience fun especially due to the great items that you can get from a second-hand shop.

Motorcycle Sunglasses Make For a Safer and More Enjoyable Ride

Motorcycle sunglasses or goggles are a part of any serious rider's standard gear. Not only do they help you look very cool while you're teasing down the asphalt on your bike, they serve as protective wear to ensure that you'll be riding your bike for many years to come. By protecting your eyes from UV radiation from the sun, insects and other debris, motorcycle sunglasses keep your eyes out of harm's way. You can not – and should not – operate a motorcycle with less than optimum vision, so keeping your eyes in the best shape can be a top priority for any motorcycle rider.

It's broadly agreed and accepted that wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle is an absolute necessity. But if your helmet does not offer some sort of face protection then you definitely need to protect your eyes against the elements with quality sunglasses or goggles. A helmet will protect your skull during a tumble, but if you've been protecting your eyes you could probably avoid the tumble to begin with.

There are a few things to look for when shopping for a good pair of motorcycle sunglasses. Not unexpectedly, these are features common to almost all sunglasses used in outdoor activities whether it's riding motorcycles, bicycles, playing volleyball or fishing.

UV Protection: The lenses in your prospecting pair of sunglasses should offer 100% UV protection. Most of your riding is done on beautiful, sunlit days so you need to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. Almost all high quality sunglass lenses filter out 99% – 100% off UV radiation, but you should be wary of cheap sunglasses.

Impact Resistant: You well know that when on the open road you often have to deal with airborne debris. This can come in the form of kickback from preceding vehicles, insects in your path, or even precipitation such as sleet or small hail. You definitely do not want any debris shattering your sunglass lenses. A shattering lens at high speeds can make an already dangerous situation much more so. Two qualities manufacturers who make incredibly resist resistant sunglass lenses are Oakley and Wiley X. In fact, Wiley X sunglasses and goggles are widely used by the US Military in combat because of their ballistic grade lenses.

Comfort: You might very well be wearing your sunglasses for several hours straight while riding, so definitely make sure that the sunglasses you purchase are comfortable. Any distractions you can eliminate will make for a safer and more enjoyable ride, so you certainly do not want shades that do not fit properly and pinch, slip or otherwise are a nuisance. Some high end sunglasses even offer climate control. These sunglasses come with an optional barrier to close the gap between the sunglass frames and your face to keep out precipitation, effectively turning your sunglasses into a pair of goggles.

The next time you're about to hit the open road on your bike, hog, or crotch rocket, make sure you've equipped yourself with the quality protective eyewear your eyes deserve. Keeping your vision healthy and intact will lead to many years of riding, so make sure you invest in motorcycle sunglasses that offer UV protection, are impact resistant and comfortable. And of course, do not forget that they should look cool, too! Happy riding!

"I Can Only Wear Gold Jewelry" – The Truth About Jewelry Allergies

I can only wear gold jewelry, everything else breaks me out.” How many times did I hear that exact phrase from my mother when I was a child? Every time I would give her jewelry that was her response.

Why does everything but gold break my mother out? Is that statement even true? When I started designing jewelry over ten years ago I decided to find out. I wanted to design jewelry for my mom that she could wear without fear of a breakout. Now I am going to let you in on what I have discovered.

My mother, like many people, develops contact dermatitis when her skin comes in contact with some types of jewelry. Her dermatitis is a result of an allergic reaction to the nickel found in many types of jewelry. Nickel allergies are very common, in fact one out of every seven people are likely to suffer from a nickel allergy. More often, women tend to suffer from nickel allergies than men. Allergy treatment can help with the symptoms of a nickel allergy. Unfortunately once the allergy has developed, a person will remain sensitive to nickel for the rest of their life.

Nickel is found in many types of costume jewelry, especially those that are mass-produced. It may also be found in other everyday items like coins, zippers, eyeglass frames, and cellphones.

So why is my mom allergic to nickel, you may ask. For some reason, which science still does not understand, her body has mistaken nickel (or similar metals like cobalt) as a threat. In response to that threat, her body causes an immune response (aka allergic reaction) to get rid of the threat. This reaction causes her to breakout in an itchy rash. But others could have a more severe reaction to nickel.

Now that I knew what was causing my mother’s breakout, I set out to find out which types of jewelry did not contain nickel.

First I looked at gold jewelry. Generally speaking, yellow gold (above 14 karat) will not cause an allergic reaction. However white gold may. White gold alloys contain nickel and other “white” metals to produce its silver coloring. One out of every nine people will react to the nickel in white gold.

Another form of gold jewelry is gold filled or “GF” jewelry. Gold filled jewelry metal is created when a base metal is coated with a layer of gold. Gold filled differs from gold-plated by the amount of gold applied. The layer used in gold filled jewelry is typically 50 to 100 time thicker that the layer used to coat gold-plated products.

Next I looked at silver jewelry. For those who are nickel sensitive, fine silver and sterling silver are great choices for “white” metals.

Fine silver is by definition 99.9% pure silver. Jewelry is generally not made of fine silver because the metal is extremely soft and does not withstand normal wear and tear well.

Most silver jewelry is made using sterling silver. Sterling silver is by definition 92.5% pure silver. In most cases, the remaining 7.5% metal is copper. Copper is infused to harden the silver and make it more durable. I use this type of sterling silver in my jewelry designs it is a great metal for nickel allergic people. Sometimes you can distinguish sterling silver by a “925” mark found on the jewelry. This is common on manufactured pieces, but may not be present on artisan jewelry.

Some other metals that are considered safe for people with nickel allergies are:

Copper – Copper jewelry is generally considered pure and not mixed with nickel or nickel alloys.

Platinum – Platinum jewelry contains 95% platinum and 5% of a secondary metal typically iridium.

Titanium – Titanium jewelry is both hypoallergenic and durable. It is a highly recommended metal for those who suffer from nickel allergies.

Niobium – This is a relatively new metal in the jewelry industry. It is a rare earth metal that can be anodized (naturally coated with beautiful colors). Like titanium, this metal is recommended for nickel allergy sufferers, especially those looking for a pop of color.

Since I have given you a list of safe metals, I thought I would also give you a list of metal terms to watch out for when you are shopping for jewelry.

Fashion or costume jewelry typically has base metals that include nickel. Sometimes these metals are plated; however that plating will wear off over time exposing the skin to the base metals. If you choose a plated metal, remember that it will need to be re-plated regularly.

Some have suggested that brass may be a hypoallergenic option. However my research has suggested that brass is sometimes alloyed with small amounts of nickel or even lead to strengthen the metal.

German silver or nickel …
