Is Fashion A Tool For Self-Realization?

The standard clothing of girls and women was for centuries a dress and a skirt with blouse and within these clothing types the designs for special occasions and festive events were created.

The social constraints put on women lost their grip around 1910 in the Western World; women gained more independence and took up careers. Mass production of clothing developed fast and made fashion for women accessible, affordable and more variety was available. Prior to this, fashion was reserved for the rich and wealthy.

Being granted more rights and codetermination in society and public life, women realized the need to reflect their newly adapted role in the clothes they were wearing. Equipped with a growing self-esteem and the desire to dress up in styles that signal their distinct personalities, new fashion styles were needed.

Until 1920 skirts of women reached down to the ankles and in the era of the “Crazy Twenties” a sudden change took place. The first mile stone was reached, when women discovered the beauty of their legs and that these were worthwhile to show off. The result was that the hem of dresses and skirts started to fluctuate between ankles and knees.

Physical constraints such as corselets were removed and replaced with brassieres that flattened the bust. Focus on the waist completely disappeared, instead the hips were garnished with loose sitting belts, creating a curveless style. The “Boyish Look” turned into a female revolution, not only in the history of women’s fashion but the general role women played in society.

The first short hair style in women’s history, called “the bob”, was introduced and enthusiastically embraced by the female gender. For many it was a symbol of liberation from the traditional long hair, for others it was simply the fact that maintaining short hair is more convenient.

Ensembles of separate sweater and pleated skirt grew more popular by the day and suits dressed working women and girls. Participating in businesses and being part of the staff in offices, the suits were like a statement of the change that women were seeking a way to find their self-determined place in a world that was ruled by men. The fashionable straight cut style lasted a full decade and the liberation of traditional clothing proceeded with high speed in 1930.

In 1930 women replaced the straight cut fashion with a style that was more in line with their femininity. Graceful, slim lines and a natural waist enjoyed a growing popularity. Feminine shapes were again accepted and also emphasized. The length of skirts and dresses stayed for nearly a decade on mid-calf, to which we refer today as “Midi”. At the end of the 30ies the hem ended 6 inches below the knee where it stayed until the forties. Slightly padded shoulders gave a hint what would be trendy in the 40’s.

In “the forties” the attention for fashion had not as much space as many women wished for. Women had to replace the work force of men in factories and service industries because men went off to fight in World War 2. Women had to be mother and father to their children and kept the Nation functioning. They took on roles that were until then reserved for men only. The fashion then was held simple; the garments had to last a while. Nevertheless an appealing fashion could be showcased and the most eye-catching difference with past styles was the padded square shoulders, which are a kind of symbol for these years: a woman had to stand her ground and needed broader shoulders to carry the load. Skirts and dresses ended just above the knee and were tailored for a small waist. Most popular in this time was the suit composed of skirt and jacket.

Pants, reserved until then for the male gender only, turned also into a garment for women. Presented in a film by a female actress wearing a suit with pants and tie and looking breathtaking sexy, created the “Marlene Dietrich Look”. The pants reached up to the waist and were closed with a zipper on the side. Using a fly for women pants did not even cross the mind of designers; it was simply out of question. Anyway the success of the pants was certain; they conquered the hearts of women in the Western World by storm and are since then vast fashion items.

In 1947 the “New Look” caught the attention of women, replacing the “utility fashion look” of wartime. With the return of the men, femininity in fashion was back too. Women wanted to look pretty and desirable; therefore the feminine flair of the “New Look” created by Christian Dior was enthusiastically embraced. Rounded shoulders, accentuated bust lines and a clearly defined waist marked dresses, coats and suits. Half-circle, ruffled dresses and skirts, were …

Are You Wearing Fashion or Costume Jewelry?

What is the difference between costume and fashion jewelry? Is there really a difference or do we use the words interchangeably? Maybe a better question should we use the words interchangeably? To find an answer, we first need to go back in time a bit and review the history of jewelry.

Although the use of materials, or specifically gold, to adorn the body easily dates back to Egypt in 3000 BC as evidenced by finds in tombs such as Tutankhamen's, we need to move forward to the 13th Century in Medieval Europe and England when Sumptuary Laws were enacted, to see the beginning of "fake" jewelry. Commoners, or yeomen and artisans, were concealed from wearing gold, silver, pearls or gemstones. Since precious gemstones and pearls were highly prized, a market developed for good glass imitations. The Italians, especially those from the glass making areas of Venice and Murano, began to make imitation glass gems and pearls that were of very high quality.

By the 17th Century, garments had become very ornamental exploiting jewelry pieces called dress ornaments on the stomacher, or front, sleeves and skirts. It became acceptable to wear fake jewelry by day and fine or real jewelry by evening. Pearls were worn in abundance and during this era, Jaquin of Paris patented a process for making fake pearls. About the same time, a compound of white lead oxide and potash, called paste, was developed and became widely used for making fake gems. These fake gems were pasted onto theatrical costumes, so becoming known as costume jewelry.

Moving forward to the late 1800's, jewelry production started to move to America and Australia, and resolved in lower quality standards. Resistance to the less quality pieces suggested jewelers such as Tiffany to begin to make very high quality fine jewelry. By the early 1900's, we began to see recognizable names influencing the mass produced jewelry industry. Designers such as Rene Lalique, Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaparelli and Napier made fake or faux jewelry fun and fashionable. This faux jewelry was more commonly known as cocktail jewelry, or costume jewelry, thus popularizing the term.

The Second World War saw fine jewelry dwindle in production since metals were rationed. Quality costume jewelry flourished, and the post-war 1950's Art Deco period signaled the acceptance of more extravagant costume jewelry. Some of these quality pieces have attained vintage status making them of interest to collectors. The 1980's and 1990's saw the influence of TV shows, movies, and celebrity sponsorships, make costume jewelry fashionable. And the term fashion jewelry came in vogue and began to refer to any jewelry that was not considered fine or real jewelry.

The usage of the terms costume and fashion jewelry has become analogous and interchangeable, and is often based on tradition and locality. Anything of less value and less quality materials than fine gold, silver, or diamond jewelry is now referred to as costume or fashion. In today's usage, while costume jewelry is generally thought to be less expensive than fashion jewelry, many components are common to both. Costume jewelry will often have gold plating over pewter, nickel or even lead, and may contain beads or gems made of plastic or acrylic. Fashion jewelry usually will be one step higher in quality, utilizing electroplated gold or silver over brass, gold over silver, or even sterling silver as the metal base and may be accented with high-end crystals, simulated gemstones, CZ, semi-precious stones , or other natural materials. Styling in fashion jewelry will often imitate real or fine jewelry designs.

So to answer the original question, what is the difference between costume and fashion jewelry, we must draw a very fine line of distinction. Looking at the quality, materials, design, and price should help clarify which terminology fits the situation. Either is correct; neither is incorrect! But personally, I prefer the term fashion jewelry as I want to be fashionable, not attired in a costume!

Get Your Hands on Jewelry Armoire Today

If you are looking for a jewelry armoire, chances are you have lots of pieces of jewelry that need organizing. You also probably want to find an armoire that looks great in the room. When you initially start looking for an armoire for the sake of organizing your jewelry, there are a few things to keep in mind.

First of all it is good to know what you want the piece to look like. If you like the old antique look, then keep that in mind. There may be modern ones that look antique, but if you do not have any luck, try looking at antique stores. You can even call ahead to see if they have anything before taking the time to go there. If you want a modern-looking one, you can find many options online or at a furniture store!

Then you will need to think about the features of your jewelry armoire. There are many different types. Some have an abundance of drawers with opening panels on the side, while others have a large amount of shelves that are covered by a mirror. Some have long legs; others go flat to the ground. Some are decorated with finely painted designs or carvings while others are plain and basic, looking almost like a dresser. Your taste will determine what it will look like, but the jewelry you need to put in it will determine what features it has. If you have a collection of thousands of necklaces to organize, one with a vast amount of panel space to hang them may be ideal. If it is many rings, then lots of smaller drawers may suffice.

If you are buying a jewelry armoire as a gift for a little girl, keep in mind that many white jewelry armoires are lined with pink on the inside specifically for this purpose. She will feel like a princess when she opens the panels and drawers to find pink velvet holding all of her precious things safe and sound. If it is for a boy or a man, a black jewelry armoire may be perfect because they can look sleek and manly. They can be lined with blue or a variety of other colors, depending on what you want for the person you are buying it for or for yourself.

If you want to get a wooden jewelry armoire, keep in mind that the wood should match the other wood in the room. It does not necessarily need to be made of wood, since many are stained to look a certain way which will still match. If you are shopping for someone else, this is a good reason to go with a black or white one because you will not have to worry as much about matching different shades of wood- which can be quite difficult if you are not holding them side by side.

Women's Self Defense and Blind Dates

The most common situation when women are raped is when they go on a blind date. Situations like this require knowledge of women's self defense. There are ways you can protect yourself if you do not know physical techniques through martial arts. These methods include carrying stun guns and mace with you at all times.

Blind dates are one of the most common ways to meet a new boyfriend. You might have a friend that knows a friend and then everything goes from there. The problem is that the friend that hooked you up really did not know the person well and they might not even know their last name. When you go on a blind date you put yourself in a vulnerable situation, especially if you do not double and he is driving. You must carry protection on you. It is important to understand women's self defense so you have the opportunity to get away if he does turn out to be a dangerous person.

Stun guns are an excellent product for women's self defense. The way these work is that they send wattages through the body, which stop the impulses of the brain that make the body work stop for a short period of time. These devices must be held against the person when you use them but they will immediately disable the attacker. Stun guns are small devices and you can purchase them that look like pagers and other devices if you want one that is disguisable. A stun gun is also non-lethal so you do not have to worry about killing the person you spray.

Another excellent product for women's self defense is pepper spray. Pepper spray can come in the form of a pen, a lipstick case, and more. This way you get the best opportunity to spray an attacker and get the best results. Pepper spray burns hot and it is one of the most effective ways to disable an attacker so you have time to run.

There are many ways to protect yourself when you go on a blind date. Most women raped on a blind date do not consider women's self defense products until they have already been attacked. They are disguisable and easy to use. Stun guns and pepper spray are the best options because they are non-lethal and they will not kill the person when you get them. These items could actually save your life.

Mens Suits – The Top of the Mens Clothing Food Chain

Let’s face it, you can put lipstick on a pig and it still will be a pig. But if you take your average man who dresses like a slob and has poor grooming habits, there are ways that you can remedy the situation. First and foremost, get that man a decent haircut, make sure he eats a proper diet and exercises and already you have the proper starting blocks for a man who can look his best. After you have your male subject ready for looking sophisticated, it’s time for him to start looking for Mens suits. Now, shopping for mens suits doesn’t have to be as difficult as some folks make it seem. First you need to be properly measured for size starting with your chest measurement which is how mens suits come sized and your waist size which can be let in or let out for off the rack mens suits. Next, you need sleeve measurements so you know whether your suit is a Regular, Short or Long size suit. Still with me. Good. Try the suit jacket on and stand straight with your arms at your side. It should fit tailored to your body. Don’t raise your arms up, this is a suit you’re wearing not a sweatshirt. The lapel of the suit you’re trying on should lay flat and look firm on you. The collar should hug the nape of neck and should not have a gap. If there is a gap, the suit you tried on either doesn’t fit you or it is a poor fitting suit. Mens suits should feel almost like a suit of armor making you feel invisible once you have it on. When you’re wearing a suit, it should give you sense of importance immediately and give you a bit of pep in your stride. Mens suits aren’t the top of clothing food chain for nothing.

Now once you’ve found the suit that makes you look like a million bucks, here are a few tips to make you look like a billion dollars. Make sure that you are wearing dress shoes that are well polished and in newer condition. Let’s face it, nothing ruins your image faster than wearing a suit with a pair of shoes that have seen better days. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen men wearing suits with shoes that look like they need to be thrown away. A nice pair of wingtips or cap-toe shoes will make you look like the man you are trying to be. Next thing to do is wear a new white dress shirt and try to stay away from button down oxford shirts. Your basic pointed collar dress shirt or even a spread collar dress shirt will look fantastic with your new suit. Now here is a tip I give that is so overlooked by probably 98% of men out there. Your tie. Make sure the tie you are wearing is well knotted and I recommend the ultimate, learn how tie your necktie in a Windsor Knot. A Windsor Knot is tie style that has a fat triangular knot that looks absolutely fantastic and will give you the look of pure confidence that will make you stand out from all the other men in suits. Learn how to tie your tie in Windsor Knot on YouTube if you don’t know how to tie one. It’s a little more complicated but once you learn how to tie your tie that way and see how great you now look in mens suits, you will never ever wear your tie any other way. You will immediately notice how poor looking other men look in their suits with a small knot or improper looking tie knot. By taking pride in how you wear a suit is what will make you look better than so many other men in suits.

Women Behind Our Clothes

The apparel industry has been historically a female-dominated industry. While being a labor-intensive industry, recruitment of manpower has always been prioritizing women in the frontline.

According to the Clean Clothes Campaign, the apparel industry has provided jobs to over 75% of women in the global manufacturing supply chain. Being one of the most stable industries in the world, the industry has assisted in escalating many families from poverty, to provide their children with food and education, and to promote their independence and individual growth.

The experiences of women in this industry is a reality for most apparel manufacturing sites in different parts of the world. Poor wage, the dreadful working condition, neglected health and safety, denied breaks and even abuses are common problems to name a few.

Even with their dominance in the industry, they significantly earn less than their male counterparts. They face consistent discrimination by being stuck with the lowest paying jobs in the industry, with the slightest chance of promotion. They have evidently lower risk security and higher risk of losing their jobs. Their dominance never equated to them being marginalized in their own industry.

Despite the exploitation, women's dominance and integration in the work has been vital to female empowerment and in leveraging gender equality in the global workforce. The global apparel industry has empowered women who came from poor backgrounds. Low skilled workers were given overwhelming opportunities to find work and earn their own salies. Unskilled women, who may not have been able to achieve a decent job on their own, may find their place in the industry otherwise.

A large reserve of female laborors has thrived to manufacture manufacturing havens with their willingness to take the job for low wages. In many developing countries, recruitment of women has been easy as they are more than willing to take whatever jobs that are available. Women, especially mothers, were given the chance to contribute to their families economically.

For many women, the apparel industry has always meant opportunity. Recruitment of workers for the apparel industry requires no formal education or training that made this industry open door to millions of women who longs to support their families.

A lump sum of these workers is those "invisible workers" who were permitted to work in the comfort of their homes. 60 per cent of apparel production in Asia and Latin America were paid work from female homeworkers. Women's representation as a significant majority of homeworkers has built the very foundation of the global apparel trade.

Integration of women in the industry has been transformative to the potential of the women workforce and revolutionizing to the current roles of women in the society.

Recruitment of women in the apparel industry has been vital in engaging more women to join the workforce and reimagine their capabilities.

Behind every clothes we wear is a woman who struggles to uplift their way of living and to be productive in their own sense.

E-Commerce for Brick-And-Mortar Retailers and Wholesalers

Do you have a store that sells a product? Perhaps you have been serving your local community for sometime now, expertly selling your product. You would like find new customers and increase sales. You know that the Internet has been responsible for creating wealth for countless entrepreneurs, but you still have not figured out how the Internet can help your business.

If you are a small to medium size retailer or wholesaler who would like to learn how the Internet can create more revenue with minimal cost increase, then this article is for you. If you already have a web store, and are not happy with you current results, this article will be helpful to you as well.

Why limit your sales to your local community when the whole world is available to sell to? If you sell items that are shippable, then you owe it to yourself and your business to establish an e-commerce platform. The following information will help you get ready for this transition. You will either need to have a member of your staff who is very Internet and computer savvy, or you will need to hire an outside Internet Marketing company.

1. Prepare your inventory

First, make sure that you have an accurate count of your existing stock. There is nothing worse than selling a product on your website only to go to find that it's not on the shelf when you go ship. This creates multiple problems.

First, you need to figure out if you can actually fulfill the order. Can you restock the item fast enough so that the customer will still be satisfied?

Secondly, you will need to contact your customer and break the news. If you are unable to fulfill their order, I recommend offering a coupon with a discount-off their next order. You need to convince your customer that you are not in the habit of selling items you do not have. You also need to entice them to try your shop again when they have the need again. I usually offer a 10% off coupon code that can be used one time. Do not forget to refund their money PROMPTLY!

If you are able to restock and fulfill the order, tell the customer immediately that there will be a delay. DO NOT wait for them to contact you looking for their order. Its better that they know the same day they place the order. I recommend contacting them via telephone and following up with an e-mail. This will tell your customer that there is a living, breathing person behind this website that they justave their money to. I recommend offering to refund their money immediately if the new timeframe does not work for them. If you do these things, more than likely the customer will be understanding and accept the later shipment. Offer them a coupon for their next order!

The lesson learned here is: be sure you know what's on the shelf before you start selling to the rest of the world.

Specific Details on Inventory Preparation

For every item that you plan to sell on the web, gather and catalog the following information:
1. Item Name
2. A unique id number (if it has a bar code, use it!)
3. Item Description
4. Unit of Measure (each, case, etc)
5. Weight – Use pounds and ounces in the US
6. Item dimensions
7. Manufacturer Name
8. Manufacturer ID number
9. Your cost
10. Your listing price
11. MSRP (optional)
12. Any variations (color, size, etc.)

While performing this gathering of information, it is also a good idea to take a product photo or find one readily available on the web. Please try to size your photos to 800×600 pixels at 72 DPI. (Helpful hint: use your unique id number to name your photo: "uniqueid.jpg")

2. Prepare to accept web payments
• Go to your bank and request a merchant account. You can also call upon a virtual limitless pool of merchant services providers. Be sure to compare costs.
• Get an Authorize.net account
• Sign up for a Paypal account

3. Identify your shippers
• Generally, you will want to offer shipping through USPS, UPS and FedEx. If shipping large items that require a freight hauler, be sure to know who you will use and know how to access their rates.
• I recommend establishing online accounts with any agency you plan to ship with.
• If you do not already own a parcel scale, get one!

4. Gather sales tax information
In most states, you will need to charge sales tax to customers ordering and receiving goods in your home state. Some states have a different sales tax by county and municipality.

5. Construct your website and shopping cart
I recommend hiring someone who is knowledgeable …

Crime Prevention and Basic Self Defense Moves for Baby Boomers

Self defense for those of us who are baby boomers is not about fighting harder, but being smarter. Have a basic crime prevention plan to follow and learn to make the most of your motor abilities. I know that my own strength, stamina, range of motion and reaction times are not like they were even ten years ago. I will be medicare age this year, and because of the many naturally occurring physical changes that our bodies experience as we rush through life, I am feeling more vulnerable to possible criminal encounters. And yes, I have been a self defense instructor for almost four decades, but I am still subject to the same potential crime as everyone else. However, I have a permanent positive plan in place that relieves me from feeling more vulnerable than I was when I was much younger.

You can not stop Mother Nature from aging us, but what we lose in physical attributes we can gain through knowledge and experience. You can feel less vulnerable and be more powerful and dangerous to criminal types by following your own permanent positive plan of crime prevention. The path to such power has been described by many of the men and women I have shared my self defense tips and basic moves with over the decades as "surprising simple and devastatingly effective." As children of the sixties, now in our sixties, we take up causes and confront the challenges as we always have … directly.

Crime prevention awareness is the single most important reality that can make the critical difference is our personal safety. Being aware of your surroundings is as simple as it is complicated. There are many distractions that go through our mind at any given moment, so make a permanent positive plan to be more mindful when moving in an environment that you should be giving more personal awareness too. As an example: Walking to or from your car in the mall at noon time when the parking structure is full of shoppers versus a higher level of awareness that is needed when walking to your car when the mall is closing and fewer people are around. A really great local resource for crime prevention tips is simply calling your local police crime prevention department or unit. The police can give you a "heads-up" on the latest scams and local crimes.

Self Defense is both crime prevention strategies and using physical moves to protect your health and life. There is no going toe to toe with a criminal type in my plan. Remember, we want to work smarter, not harder. My personal plan is the very same program that I have been teaching for decades. It includes both a crime prevention strategy and learning to maximize my body as a weapon with simple basic physical moves that I developed naturally before I was two years of age. You can learn to leverage your full power against a physical assault through an easy to learn system of natural motor movements.

Learning to use motor skills you already possess is not a new approach, but the "transfer training" methods we teach have now been tried and tested over the years by thousands of men and women as well as the boys and girls who have attended this short , safe, and yes, fun type self defense program. New skills come from "DOING".

Self Defense Muscle Memory- Consider the difference between understanding the concept of riding a bicycle, and actually being able to do it. Getting on the bike and experimenting to find balance and control are what brings mastery to this physical skill. As we all seem to know, once you learn to ride a bike, you never forget. It is part of your "muscle memory".

Good basic self defense moves that apply this same concept to learning the physical skills that can save your life. The training methods in a my Self Defense Program will show you how to quickly develop the physical motor skills into "Self Defense Muscle Memory". Partner training is a key to being able to learn the new skills in about the same amount of time you needed to learn CPR.

If you can point with your finger, wave and clap your hands, or able to climb up a few stairs than I have self defense moves you can learn. Are you ready to start your own permanent positive self defense plan? Click on the link in the resource area to begin a free lesson on learning the knee kick.

Cheap Beats

Over the last few years, inexpensive technology has lowered the barrier to those who want to create beats and instrumentals for music. While this lower barrier to entry allows more and more people who want to make beats do so, it also can create a challenge for serious music artists looking for quality beats.

At the same time, the amount of new beat makers gives artists the opportunity to find cheap beats that they do not have to spend a ton of money for. This can be good because most new up and coming singers and rappers do not have a significant amount of money to invest in rap beats, hip hop beats, or r & b instrumentals.

If you are an artist, then there should be a balance when looking for affordability and quality in your music instrumentals. You do not want to just go and pick up any cheap beats that you find.

Just because you find cheap beats does not mean that they will do your talent justice. When dealing with new artists, I teach them the importance of being willing to invest in your talent, but at the same time I can understand when new artists are putting in tons of effort and simply do not have the funds to pay full prices.

So again, there must be a balance. You should focus on quality first, price last. A lot of times, new beat makers think that the best way to get people to buy their beats is to make them super cheap. The thing is, serious producers have invested thousands upon thousands of dollars in equipment and lots of time to perfect their beat making craft.

After reaching a definite point and building a number of clients, some of us reach a point where we can afford to offer cheap beats for a limited time time to artists who want to try their hand at singing or rapping. These are the types of beats that you should look for if you are looking for inexpensive instrumentals.

This is one component of the balancing act in searching for cheap beats that are professional quality.

Taking Formal to the Next Level – The Tailcoat

The Tailcoat

The trend of wearing tailcoats began in the 19th century. What is considered formal wear today started out as a form of riding jacket, with its front edges cut away to provide space for the rider's knees, enabling him to gallop off while hunting or to trot away at a leisurely pace. While horseback riding, the tails could be kept out of the way using the two buttons located at the back of the coat.

The tailcoat, also known as the swallow-tail coat or the claw-hammer became a part of everyday gentlemen fashion in the 1830's until the 1850's. Today, the tailcoat is considered as one of the most popular types of men's formal wear on the market. These garments are usually worn by men for white tie affairs or extremely formal occasions.

Tailcoats are waist-length coats with two long tails at the back of the jacket that reach the wearer's knee. Traditional designs of the tailcoat feature pockets inside the jacket. These pockets are meant to hold your gloves when you're not wearing them. Older designs of the tailcoat include satin facings found on the coat's lapels. These coats are double breasted, and both rows of buttons being non-functional in most cases.

Choosing Your Tailcoat

When picking out your tailcoat, be wary of length and finding the right size. Try out your tailcoat before purchasing it to avoid needing numerous alterations done to your wedding attire.

Tailcoats are usually worn with white wing-collar dress shirts. Pick a dress shirt with single cuffs that you can close with fashionable cuff links. Find a matching bow tie or ascot and waistcoat to go with your attire. Wear either black trousers or trousers that match your tailcoat for a more dignified and formal appearance. Patent shoes are a must when it comes to formal attire, so make sure you find wedding shoes that work well with your tailcoat of choice.

The color of your tailcoat should depend on the time of your wedding, the formality of the event and what your bride is wearing. For formal day weddings, go for a dark gray, black or white tailcoat. You can choose to wear black trousers with your white tailcoat, or you can go white-on-white with your wedding wardrobe.

As for very formal night weddings, you simply can not go wrong with an elegant and classic black outfit.

How to Make Your Shoes Last A Little Longer

A shoe’s lifespan depends on three main things: repetition, stress, and care. The type of care depends on the type of footwear, but there are several tidbits and umbrella guidelines for how to make your shoes last longer:

Rotation

As tempting as it may be to slip into the same pair every day, shoes need to rest after every 24 hours. Our feet can produce up to one cup of moisture each day. Moisture wears out the inside of your footwear, shortening how long they can be used. This is especially true for fine leather and athletic footwear. Rotating shoes allow them to air out and decompress. Fresh socks and, for those whose feet need an extra oomph, a sprinkle of baby powder beforehand is a plus.

Take the Time

Whether we are in a hurry to go or ready to relax, many are guilty of kicking those trainers off to the side or trying to wiggle their foot in without a horn. For some shoes, like flip flops, it’s perfectly okay, however, other types of shoe require a bit more attention. Laced footwear needs to be loosened before taking them off. This helps prevent the upper part of the shoe and the sole from coming apart. The same concept goes with putting shoes back on. Over time, the back-and-forth wiggling motion will cause the shoe to break. A shoe horn prevents this damage from occurring.

Storage/Shape

When they are not being used, shoes should be kept in a cool, dry place until they’re ready to be used again. A cedar shoe tree helps maintain shape and absorb any leftover dampness. Reusing old, dry newspaper and stuffing them into the shoes works as well. Additional protection from dust and dirt can be provided using breathable cotton shoe bags.

Water Protection/Cleaning

Spraying on a water protector, regardless of what the shoes are made of, will keep moisture from penetrating. If leather shoes become wet, wipe them with a cloth, and then let them dry completely at room temperature; heat will shrink them. DO NOT put your shoes in the washing machine. Instead, use a scrub brush, mild soap, and cold water. Shoes made of more delicate materials, like leather or suede, need to be treated as soon as they get stained.

Other Actions

Avoid dragging your feet or kicking rocks

Shoes last longer by getting the right fit

Even though a shoe’s lifespan cannot be exactly determined, there’s no doubt proper care will extend how long they last.

Jewelry Stores Going the Extra Mile to Prevent Theft

Crimes against jewelry stores result in over 185 million dollars per year in annual losses. These establishments continue to be supreme targets for burglars and robbers with retail jewelers having the greatest risk. Jewelry stores actually lose more money to theft than banks do nationally to robberies. The owners and managers of jewelry stores do not have to sit idly by, however, and just watch their profits go up in smoke. With a few well-conceived plans and procedures, their places of business can greatly reduce the losses that come from criminal activity.

National and local police organizations recommend some strategic planning and effort to help prevent robberies and burglary. First, for example, never have employees open or close the store alone. Instead, have one employee lock the door while at least one other coworker stands off at a distance, cell phone in hand, ready to call the authorities if need be. Along with this, it is also recommended that establishments keep at least two employees on the sales floor at all times. Police say that the chance of armed robbery is much greater if there is only one worker on the floor.

Another course of action to take, according to police, is to never allow strangers into your establishment outside of business hours. Along with this, be sure to confirm the identity of all delivery personnel and cleaning crews before allowing these people into your store.

Along with these personnel procedures, it is also suggested that jewelry stores allow customers to enter only with a buzzer system. If you are afraid that constantly locked doors will have a negative impact on your business, however, an alternative to this would be the use of a doorbell or chime that alerts employees whenever someone enters the establishment.

It is also important to greet all customers that enter your business. Making eye contact with all customers will generally dissuade criminals from choosing your store as these types of people do not like to be noticed.

Authorities say that a properly displayed and functioning surveillance camera system is also imperative to crime prevention. Also, the addition of a hidden surveillance camera will give you video footage of suspected robbers that attempt to destroy or steal your publicly displayed camera.

Another way to deter theft is to have display cases installed with burglary resistant or reinforced glass on both the sides as well as the top. These types of cases will at least slow down if not completely prevent potential burglars from getting to your merchandise.

Finally, it is smart to have an internal “alert system” in place at your store to signal to employees that a suspicious figure is in the establishment. Things such as a code word or phrase can be used to alert staff of potential funny business without frightening normal customers and clientele.

Womens Fashion Accessories – Choosing the Perfect Womens Fashion Accessories

You can accent your look no matter what your style of clothing with the right womens fashion accessories. There are tons of accessories you can choose from too, like sunglasses or scarves. Fashion accessories can even be worn together to create a unique look. You'll just have to figure out which kinds of accessories will make the perfect you.

Scarves

These classic items are an iconic symbol of the elegant woman. Every woman should have one of these womens fashion accessories in their wardrobe. There are several uses for a scarf too. You can wear one around your neck, use it to protect your hair on a windy or rainy day and even use it to tie up your hair when you are not up to involved styling of your hair.

Plus scarves are simply beautiful to look at. They come in paisleys, strips, polka dots and other more elaborate designs. The right scarf can really make a look pop.

Remember scarves are like make up colors. If you are a fall then you'll want to look for scarves that are slightly darker in shade, maroons, browns, tans and so on. If you are a spring pick a scarf with lighter colors like pinks and blues. This goes for the other make up 'types'.

Sunglasses

Even in the winter you could need a pair of sunglasses if it's a really sunny day outside. You'll have to make sure that you pick a pair of these high class womens fashion accessories for any season. Sunglasses can be a surprisingly pricey item but they are also very useful and can easily accent a look perfectly.

When shopping for a pair of sunglasses to accent you, make sure you pick up some with UV protection and medium to dark shades. So, you'll be able to wear them even on the brightest days and feel comfortable.

The lenses should not overwhelm your face, so the smaller your face the smaller your lenses. Those big aviator style lenses are not the look for a petite young woman. If you must go with large lenses choose a pair with only light tinting. So people will be able to see your eyes behind the lenses and they will not overwhelm as much.

Hair Ties / Clamps / Barretts

Even your hair describes some fabulous womens fashion accessories. They are great for bad hair days, days when you just do not want to bother and those days when you want to show off a pretty new accessory in your hair.

The kind of hair accessory you pick for your hair on any given day really depends on how you are feeling. A hair clamp is a good way to pull back medium to long hair and still look classy. Hair ties are quick and easy ways to pull long hair out of your face. Barretts are famous for holding down those unruly curls.

There are obviously lots of other kinds of womens fashion accessories to choose from for your look. Choose something that fits you. Purses and bags are great accessories and they are a quick place to stow all of your goodies. Jewelry always shows off the woman and it's an excellent way to invest some of your money.
