Start Your Own Jewelry-Making Business

In today’s economy I find so many people trying to figure out ways to make a little extra money in their spare time. One way that’s fun and entertaining is to start making your own jewelry, beaded jewelry to be exact.

I got into making bead jewelry about seven years ago when I needed a hobby and wanted to find a way to make a little extra money. To be honest another hobby of mine was to BUY jewelry, so replacing that hobby with one that was cheaper, and allowed me to both sell and wear my product was a no brainer.

I sell at the local farmer’s market and a few surrounding arts and crafts show. The space rent for places like this is pretty inexpensive, and I always earn enough to pay for the cost, materials and time it takes to set up and spend a weekend.

I’ve also started selling on consignment at some local stores, like the very bead store I usually buy all of my beads at, and I’ve been experimenting with selling online at places like eBay.

The jewelry I make is fairly simple, but resembles the type of costume jewelry you’d find at Target. I started out making necklaces, earrings and bracelets out of semi-precious stone beads, like green malachite or lapis lazuli. But the cost of materials has gone up quite a bit (have you seen the price of American turquoise beads lately?). My advice is to stick to the less expensive pieces, under $20.00 for a necklace in my area of the country. This type of jewelry is a compulsive buy for many people: they see it, they like it and they buy it.

In the past couple of years I’ve found that I sell more jewelry (and make more money) by using glass beads instead, particularly Chinese or India glass. They come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes and finishes.

If you want ideas about what type of jewelry to make, just go by the local department stores, or even better the local clothing stores. This type of jewelry goes in and out of fashion about every three months. You can even target styles to gender and age by hitting the appropriate stores (American Eagle and A&E for the younger beach-bum crowds, Express for the young fashionistas, etc.).

Aside from the beads, you’ll just need a variety of clasps, some bead wire and crimp beads. If you want to make earrings you’ll have to also get some French wires and drops. In all you could get enough materials to make a table’s worth of merchandise for less than $100.00.

With any luck you can turn that $100.00 into $300.00, and have fun (and look good) doing it!

How to Find the Cheapest Scrap Platinum

The oldest record of platinum use is as an inlay in ancient Egypt. However, the Egyptians though it was a variation of electrum, (a natural blend of gold and silver.) Native Americans used it for centuries in small decorative objects. Platinum was unknown to Europeans until Spanish discovered it in Columbia. The Spanish called it platina, meaning little silver. It was not identified as a new metal until the 1700’s. The metal was introduced into Europe from South America in the middle of the eighteenth century. It is always found in association with other metals, chiefly Rhodium, Osmium, Iridium, Palladium.

Platinum is one of the rarest and purest precious metals in the world. The perfect jewelry material for these fortuitous times, Platinum is regarded by many as a “new” metal. Platinum has been held in high regard as a symbol of wealth and nobility, the true worth of Platinum was underappreciated until the eighteenth century, when the Europeans began to recognize Platinum’s beauty. As a matter of fact, France’s Louis XVI proclaimed it the only metal fit for royalty. Legendary jewelers such as Cartier, Faberge and Tiffany created their timeless designs in platinum. The world’s famous diamonds, including the Hope and Koh-l-Noor, are secured permanently in platinum.

Platinum reached its peak of popularity in the early 1900s, when it was the preferred metal for all fine jewelry in America. It dominated the world of jewelry design during the Edwardian era, the Art Deco period and well into the 1930s. At the onset of World War II, however, the U.S. government declared platinum a ‘strategic’ metal and its use in non-military applications, including jewelry, was banned.

Very few countries have platinum supplies, with South Africa (80%) and Russia (11%) accounting for approximately 90% of the world’s supply. The yearly production from these mines is only 150 tons, which is 1/25 of the yearly production of gold. Moreover, the amount of platinum that can be produced from raw ore is relatively small. To make a single small ring of approximately 3 grams requires approximately 1 ton of raw ore.

Today, platinum is much more valuable than gold. Although it is used in many industrial applications, including the automotive industry, platinum jewelry consistently commands higher prices than even pure gold because of its rarity.

Two of the best ways to find the cheapest scrap platinum is through catalytic converters and scrap platinum jewelry. Due to the prices of platinum being so high as of late, a lot of people are becoming victims of thieves who steal their catalytic converters. It used to be you had to worry about your rims, stereos and gps systems, well not anymore.

A catalytic converter is used to reduce the toxicity of emissions from an internal combustion engine. They were first introduced on cars in the US market for the 1975 model year to comply with tightening EPA regulations on auto exhaust. Each catalytic converter contains between three and seven grams of platinum. Not a bad catch if you can find one legally. Catalytic converters are also used on generator sets, forklifts, mining equipment, trucks, buses, trains, and other engine-equipped machines.

From the scrap yards, the converters make their way into the metal-recycling industry, where the platinum and other precious elements, including palladium and rhodium, are removed and used to build high-tech machinery, including more catalytic converters.

Although it is being brought to the forefront thanks to thieves stealing the catalytic converters, platinum still seams to be the big unknown in scrap metal. Some great places to find old catalytic converters for scarp are the local junk yards, online classifieds, such as Craiglist, US Freeads and Kiji. Another great place, as usual is Ebay. Some people even find them at flee markets and garage sales. The trick is once you get them, finding refiners that will pay decent scrap metal prices for the platinum. It will be less than what the price of platinum is due to the fact that they have to extract it, that price is passed on to you.

Now there is a second way to find the cheapest scrap platinum and that is through jewelry. Again the best places to find great deals on platinum jewelry is through the flee market and garage sales, followed by Craigslist, Us Freeads, Kiji and Ebay. Or if you are really resourceful you can invest in a metal detector and hope for the best.

What is so great about scrap platinum jewelry? Well, the number of knowledgeable buyers and sellers are low. Most people don’t understand that platinum jewelry is 90% platinum and that the other 10% is made up of a platinum group metal. If you call around to your local pawnshops, scrap metal dealers, junk yards, coins shops, and jewelers, you’ll find that most of them …

Would Our Web Designer Sell Us A Junk Design?

Junk just gathers dust
Web designers are in the business of selling web designs. That is the first principle of business for a web design firm, as it is for many other types of businesses. There is nothing new here except that the whole purpose of a web site is to create business for the owner, and a site just gathering dust does not do that.

No one says that a web design needs to create direct sales for any business but it must connect with the business owner’s market and engage that market. If the site doesn’t connect with the market it is just junk collecting dust. It may be a beautiful piece of work but it’s still collecting dust.

Part of this problem is our responsibility as small business owners. We didn’t go to a web designer and say, “I need a web site designed for my web market.”

Instead, most small business owners say, “I need a web site designed for my business.”

Our market doesn’t care about us
The difference is about the focus our words create and the intent that gives to a project. And when the focus is on our business it is not on our market. Thus, we end up with something we are thrilled with even though our market is not impressed and doesn’t care.

What our market cares about is their problem, not the looks of our web site. They are not going to share our web site with others because it looks cool, but they will share when our business web site helps them and educates them about our industry and how to make the best choice for their needs.

Are we being educated on our marketing options?
The chances are that our web designer doesn’t really want to go there. Instead they jump right in to giving us a good look at their portfolio and suggesting how they could customize and come up with something totally original for us.

And our fault is that we go for this – not knowing any better.

But it’s not really our fault. We go to experts to get the best information and all too often we are talking to a professional that has a conflict of interest. This is where the web designer is advising us about the very product they sell. We may never get clear information about what all our choices are.

For instance:
If the conversations never touches on the low cost, or no cost, of “Pull Marketing” then we are not getting all of the available choices.

If the conversations never come around to discussing the differences between a demographic market and a virtual market then we are not seeing our real needs.

If the conversations never get around to discussing how to define a marketing profile for our web market (not just guessing about our virtual market) then we are not getting to use the best of what a web site can offer our business.

And there are more if’s that the web design industry does not talk about. Web designers don’t talk about our market other than to ask us to describe them. It is so much easier for them to design something for us. So most small business owners end up with a beautiful site that is headed for the scrap pile from day one.

To design for our web market a design firm would need to know how to discover things about our virtual market that even we don’t know. They would need to know about virtual markets and why they are different. Web designers need to know our market’s shopping habits, what our market values the most and which values we have in common with our market. But web designers, trendy or not, don’t give us any of this.

The solution is in market segmentation
This is just another term for psycho-graphics. Segmentation divides a whole geographical or national market into 7 segments where each has a psychological profile that describes the segments shopping habits, values, likes & dislikes as well as general beliefs. These are better tools to work with on the web.

Reverse engineer
We could also stand back from our own business and ask that business a few questions to discover things about the market it serves.

  • Doesn’t our business provide solutions for a market?
  • Doesn’t our experience include the pain and distress our market feels?
  • Can we name our market’s biggest problem?

Once we have put words to the solutions we provide and for who we provide them for then we are well on our way toward knowing who our web site should be designed for.

We do not have to accept trendy web designs that have no appeal to our market. These just sit and gather dust. We …

Lens Technologies Found On Glasses

With so many glass lens technologies out there designed to block out all sorts of light, where do you turn? Do not worry; terms like photochromic and polarized may have stumped even Einstein! These words do not have to be as near as confusing as they sound.

In this article I will discuss the major technologies currently being employed on glasses and sunglasses everywhere. By learning exactly what these technologies do, you can decide on whether or not they are worth your money.

Polarized Lenses – In short, polarized glasses stop polarized light. What is polarized light? Polarized light is light that travels in one plane, while non polarized light travels randomly. A good example of polarized light is the glare that comes off of a lake when you look at. Another example is the glare that comes off of a smooth surface, such as a car.

"So how exactly do polarized lenses stop polarized light" you may be asking yourself. Polarized lenses work because of a polarized filter that is applied to them. Polarized filters are generally made from molecules that align themselves horizontally, and will then filter light that matches their alignment. Since polarized light is usually horizontally aligned, these polarized filters absorb this light. Look at using polarized sunglasses if you are around water a lot.

Check out http://travel.howstuffworks.com/sunglass4.htm for a great example of how to test a pair of polarized shades to see either or not they really are equipped with polarized lenses.

Photochromic – Typically tinted gray, photochromic lenses are really a marvel of modern technology. Developed in the late 1960s photochromic lenses are designed to darken when exposed to UV light, and then lighten when UV light is absent. Outside in the sun photochromic glasses will darken – But once they are bought back inside without the presence of the sun, they will go back to normal.

Even under artificial light, photochromic lenses will stay light. The molecules that make up a photochromic lens react only to UV rays, and this is the reason behind their change when exposed to the sun.

Mirrored Lenses – How do mirrored lenses get their signature chromed looks? An ultra thin metallic coating is applied to all mirrored lenses, and this is how they achieve their mirror like shine. Most of the time, only about half of the reflective layer needed for 100% light filtering is applied. What this equates to is that about half of the light that hits mirrored lenses will get through. Some mirrored shades even have graduated mirroring – The top usually being the heaviest, so blocking more of the sun from above.

Anti-Reflection Coatings – One of the many coats sometimes applied to sunglasses, the anti-reflective coating stops back glare. Back glare is from light that comes from behind the wearer, reflecting off the inside of the lenses, and causing an annoying glare.

Scratch-Resistant Coatings – Unfortunately, optical quality plastics are generally not scratch resistant as glass – Especially polycarbonate. What a scratch-resistant coating does is prolong the life of a pair of lenses. Generally a scratch-resistant coating is simply an optically clear hard film, which can take more of a beating than CR-39 or polycarbonate plastics.

UV Coating – Most sunglasses available provide a lot of UV protection, which is exactly what you want. Prolonged UV radiation can cause a whole host of problems which can simply be stopped by wearing sunglasses. Make sure your sunglasses block at least 99% of UVA and UVB rays!

Being able to distinguish the difference between the many lens technologies currently available is not just great for coffee table talk – Knowing the difference can literally save your eyes.

What Are the Most Popular Ring Metals?

The choice of ring metal is wide-ranging and can range from the low-cost tungsten to the high-end platinum. The preferred metal will relate to not only the cost, but also the type of ring and personal style preference. Let’s take a look at a few of the most popular options:

Platinum

Platinum is a precious metal that is expensive, but is appreciated for the fact it does not need much maintenance. This rare metal is typically mixed with a variety of other metals, such as ruthenium, rhodium, palladium and iridium. The metal is heavy and dense, which means it is remarkably durable. Any rings in platinum will not experience issues with corrosion or stress-cracking, which is an issue for the white gold rings. Maintaining this ring simply involves an occasional clean with warm water and mild soap. Also, if the platinum is scratched, the mark can often be removed by buffing.

Gold

Gold rings are widely available, popular and traditional. The most common types include yellow and white gold. The yellow gold is typically more hard-wearing and easier to maintain and repair abrasions. Apart from the extra upkeep of the white gold, it is also a metal that is more expensive. The light color of the white gold is achieved by adding several other metals, such as palladium, manganese and nickel. They act much like a bleaching agent to create a warm gray/silver shade.

Palladium

Palladium has a look that is comparable to platinum with a soft white-silver finish. Also, the rarity, durability, color and melting point is similar to platinum, but this metal isn’t so dense. The rings in palladium are perfect for those with sensitive skin because the metal is naturally hypoallergenic.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver continues to be very popular for all types of jewelry. It is significantly more affordable than alternatives like gold and platinum. Much like pure gold, the silver metal is too soft on its own, so mixed with several different metal alloys. The preferred extra content is rhodium plating which helps to create the shine and look of white gold or platinum. Sterling silver needs a regular clean, but with the proper routine there shouldn’t be any reason to not maintain a shiny, polished look for the long-term.

Tungsten

Tungsten is a great low-cost option that is a reliable option in the most rugged environments with minimal risk of damage. However, this is a metal that doesn’t give the option to resize. It is scratch-proof, dense and needs virtually no maintenance.

But then, winter is just about to go full blast, so there's also a lot of new and fashionable stuff for the cold months. Here are some of the latest in kids clothing for the reminder of 2013 and for the coming year.

Fall / Winter Trends

The fall / winter trend in kids clothing uses a lot of silhouettes and adopts a number of style varieties. Mixing and matching is a big thing. Here are specific things you might want for your kid:

  • Knitwear like cardigans, sweaters and jumpers.
  • Fake fur – for both boys and girls. Look for fur coats, bags, hats, collars and ear muffs.
  • Go for clothes with neutral hues and natural colors. You'll never go wrong with black and white, although some parents might consider these colors too grim. If that is the case, go for more neutral ones like brown or gray. Add some brightness by pairing these colors with pinks, blues, purples and some orange.
  • Denims will never go out of style. No matter what season or time of the year, always get some jeans for your kids. Skinny jeans are still good, but you may want to try out embellished jeans for a slightly different look. These are jeans accented with crystals or laces. Denim jumpsuits should be just perfect for your little boy!

  • Bold prints are the "in thing" for little boys.
  • Military-inspired outfits never go out of style for fashionable little boys.
  • Get some clothes with embroidery and appliqués for your little girl. Stripes, statement prints and polka dots will also be popular.
  • Finally, do not be afraid to experiment with colors. Veer away from usual color pairings and try to pair off contrasting colors. You'll be surprised at the results!

For the Year 2014

Next year, vibrant colors – bright hues – will continue to dominate kids' clothing. Big prints and bold graphics on tops (including sweaters) will also be common. Embellished denims (with appliqués, buttons, laces, etc …) will likewise continue to make an appearance. Other trends include watercolor prints, Indian-inspired cloths and scribble or drawing-like prints.

No matter what the trend is, when choosing clothes for your kids, it is important to remember that what matters most is how comfortable and confident they feel in their clothes.

When we talk about the word History different eras and ages comes into our minds. We will found out here about the History of Jewelry in different eras.

First if we talk about the early history, the people of Africa generated the first sign of jewelry. In Kenya, beads made from perforated ostrich egg shells have been dated to more than 40,000 years ago. Around 7,000 years ago first sign of copper jewelry was seen.

The most common metal used in Egypt was gold for making jewellery, they prefer gold the most over other metals. The first sign of jewellery in Ancient Egypt was around 3,000-5,000 years ago. Also the Egyptians use colored glass in place of precious gems. According to Egyptians as each color means different thing, they use to color the glasses to develop jewelry items.

Now when we come to the Europe and Middle East. If we talk about Mesopotamia, by approximately 4,000 years ago, jewelry-making had become a significant craft in cities of Sumer and Akkad. Jewellery was made from thin metal leaf and was set with large number of brightly-colored stones in Mesopotamia. Then talking about the Greeks, they started using gold and gems in jewellery in 1600 BC. By 300 BC, the Greeks were mastered in making colored jewelry and using amethysts, pearl and emeralds. Greeks generally don’t wore jewellery it was mostly used for public appearances or on some special occasions. Although jewellery work was abundantly diverse in earlier times, when the Romans conquered the most of Europe, jewellery was changed as smaller factions developed the Roman designs.

Now when we come to the Jewish time Since Biblical times jewellery has been a part of the Jewish culture. There are references in the Bible to the wearing of the jewellery, both as a decoration and as symbol as well. Star of David is the most common symbol in Jewish jewellery.

The Indian subcontinent has the longest continuous legacy of jewellery making anywhere, with a history of over 5,000 years. The people of the Indus Valley Civilization were the first one to start jewelry making. Although the China started making the jewelry around the same period, but it became widespread with the spread of Buddhism around 2,000 years ago.

Ending with the Americans, Jewellery played a major role in the fate of the Americas when the Spanish established an empire to seize South American gold. There were mainly many American cultures which were expertise in jewellery making common among them was the Aztecs, the Mixtecs, the Mayans and the Mochica. In North America, the native Americans used shells, wood, turquoise, and soapstone, almost unavailable in South and Central America. These all materials were used in making different jewellery ornaments.

BDSM Protocol – How to Successfully Present Yourself to a Pro-Domme (Dominatrix) In Six Simple Steps

A Pro-Domme, also called a Dominatrix or Mistress, is a professional who engages in BDSM activity with clients. These clients take on the submissive role (or “bottom”) during a session. Typical activities engaged in may include: dominance and submission (D/s), sadomasochism (S&M), fetish play, bondage, and discipline. While BDSM activities are highly charged both emotionally and sexually, sex is not included in the services of a Pro-Domme.

Many clients present themselves to a prospective Mistress in an unfavorable way, which results in them not being given that precious opportunity to serve. Sometimes clients can find a Pro-Domme who will session with them, only to discover that the so called “Dominatrix” is inexperienced or lacking in skills. As the saying goes, “a good Domme is hard to find.” This difficulty in finding a Mistress often occurs due to the submissive’s naivete or because he possesses a “Dive Bar Attitude.” However, by following six simple steps when approaching a Pro-Domme, it is highly unlikely that a prospective client will not be given an opportunity to serve a professional.

What is a “Dive Bar Attitude?”

Many prospective clients present themselves to a Pro-Domme inappropriately because they possess what I’ve termed a “Dive Bar Attitude.” When a person goes to a dive bar, they do so with certain expectations. They expect to be served. They expect to have their thirst quenched. They expect to get drunk without paying a lot of money. They expect that, other than their payment, they will not be required to provide anything to the proprietor. This is the WRONG ATTITUDE when approaching a Pro-Domme.

Think of approaching a prospective Mistress as having more in common with an outing to a new, fashionable club. There’s preliminary legwork that must be done to prepare (such as making a reservation, or learning what the dress code entails). The establishment wants a certain type of clientele because the club’s clientele is a reflection of the club. And because many people want to experience the club, the proprietor can be picky about who gets in. Once inside the club, the visitor’s main expectation is to simply experience the club. The goal is not cheap drunkenness. Instead, it’s to experience the whole ambiance of the club, to relish the very experience of it, and to enjoy drinks that are expertly prepared. It’s a premium experience that is being sought, and it’s not bargain priced.

Knowing this, how should a client tailor their approach to a prospective Mistress?

As a wise person once said, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” Pro-Dommes are approached by numerous prospective clients. Many of these men fall victim to the Mistress’ delete button. Because so many who approach us are time wasters who regard us as masturbation fodder, we have no choice but to discard the e-mails of those who exhibit insensitivity or lack of social awareness. If you properly introduce yourself in that first communication (presumably an e-mail), you will stand out from the crowd and you will please the Domme.

So, keeping in mind the exclusive nature of sessioning with the best Pro-Dommes, and knowing that you must make your very best impression in order to earn the opportunity to serve a Mistress, what protocol should a prospective submissive follow?

Step 1: Do Your Research

You most likely found the Mistress through her website, so read it! Read every word; don’t just perv on her pics. Her website is a reflection of who she is. It will tell you her interests, her likes and dislikes, and (most importantly) how she likes things done. It is basically a virtual version of herself. It is her domain. I repeat, read every word.

Step 2: Exhibit Self-Awareness & Honesty

Someone who is self-aware makes a good client. Know what you want, and know what you are capable of delivering. There is a big difference between fantasy and reality. It may make a good fantasy to envision life as my 24-7 slave, a slave that will do everything I say without question. But please don’t waste my time with your fantasy unless you actually: 1) truly want that, and 2) can provide that. If you have a day job as an attorney or a CFO or an engineer, I don’t think you’re going to be giving that up anytime soon. Don’t waste my time with your masturbatory fantasy. Just keep it to yourself, please. What I would like to know is what you can truly offer me. If what you can offer is a client who would like to session with me every couple of weeks… perhaps because you enjoy bottoming watersports (feel free to insert your favorite fetish here) but don’t have a woman in your life who is into that, THEN SAY THAT! That type of …

Nike has been working relentlessly over the years. To establish themselves as sports footwear number one with up-to-date style changing with times and when required. I am sure that no one can resist the temptation of fashion. Nike never rested on his achievement but on the other hand worked hard on to move forward with quality output footwear. It is not that it caters to only the young people, but it also tries to meet the demands of child and other segments of the market.

This is a century of hi-tech and the technology used by Nike is of the latest one in producing the footwear. It every time works on putting new technology into work so that the color, design, look, everything even the lace are designed to have an wextra image in the minds of the people using it.

Lastly people around the globe have different interests, taste in using certain types of products but no company can create a thing which can satisfy everyone’s demand, so policy is being adopted where it enables to customize shoes purchased from Nike and at the same time add personal look, a feeling to the selected sportswear.

The Ban on Greyhound Racing in the ACT

This is a big issue in the Australian Capital Territory as the Greyhound Industry gears up for a legal challenge to the governments disbandment of it. The question is whether it constitutes a sport or a business that exploits innocent animals and causes them pain and suffering. The other agenda at work here is the clamp down on gambling in the territory. One can’t be seen to support a racing industry while denying other forms of it.

The feeling in the political arena is that people are spending wildly on things like poker machines and other forms of gambling. Many addicted to it have become homeless or dependent on charities and the like as a result. There is also the question of cruelty in the greyhound business when secret cameras filmed live bating in training sessions.

The animals in these images were rabbits, kittens, and possums, who were ultimately ripped to pieces. That was after being tied to a machine and driven at speed around the track with a pack of dogs in hot pursuit.

As a pet owner and one who respects all life this type of thing has disgusted me. Even more so as years ago when I gave some kittens away and a man told me he only wanted one to train his dogs. He never got it from me and my words to him were not so kind.

What is in the human psyche that supports this type of animal cruelty? That is what the Minister who issued the ban has also asked. Surely it is up to society to stand behind his judgement and let the matter proceed to court where hopefully the judge will favour the victims over the ones who make money from them.

Craft Project – How To Make Fashion Doll Furniture Out Of Plastic Canvas

Do you have a little one who loves to play with 11 1/2″ tall fashion dolls? Does you little one need some new furniture to go along with her dolls? If so, I have an easy to make craft project to share with you today that involves using a skein of acrylic yarn, needle and some 7 count plastic canvas. This project is great for beginners and works up in just one afternoon.

You can make just about any type of fashion doll furniture that you would like by using standard plastic canvas and some yarn. To design your own patterns, simple sketch out what you would like to make on graph paper and then cut out your graph paper and use it as a template.

Supplies Needed:

2 sheets 7 count plastic canvas (clear or a color to match yarn)

1 skein acrylic yarn

plastic canvas sewing needle

sharp scissors

To Make The Chair:

1 seat – 19 holes by 19 holes

2 seat backs – 19 holes by 22 holes high

4 leg pieces – 19 holes by 18 holes high

note – you can leave your leg pieces in a solid block shape or cut them to resemble a block style letter A, the choice is up to you.

Stitching: I did a simple tent stitch but I did it over 3 holes at a time going top to bottom to make vertical rows. I used 4-ply Acrylic yarn. You will first stitch your seat, seat backs and then the legs, leaving all outer edges unfinished. Once done, place the two seat backs wrong sides together and stitch them together using a whip stitch but leave the bottom edge unfinished. Stitch three of the chair leg sections to the seat. Place the seat back and fourth leg section together and whip stitch to the remaining unfinished edge of the seat. Finish up by stitching around the legs and openings so that your chair has no unfinished edges.

To Make The Side Table:

table top – 19 holes by 19 holes squared

8 legs – 3 holes wide by 18 holes tall

Stitching: I simply used a tent stitch and stitched the top of the table and then the eight legs. Once done I stitched all eight legs to my table by joining two leg pieces at each of the table’s corners. After they are attached using a simple whip stitch, just go around and whip stitch all of your unfinished edges. When stitching the pieces together, just envision your standard look side table with a flat top and four legs.

To Make The Accent Rug:

rug piece measures 22 holes by 22 holes squared

Stitching: You can use a tent stitch or a scotch stitch to add texture and interest to the accent rug. Once you decide on the stitch you want to use, work the center first and then finish up by whip stitching around your outer edges. You can leave the edges plain or add a 1/2″ fringe to them, that choice is up to you.

How to Safely Clean Antique Jewelry

Perhaps you have a nice piece of antique jewelry, but you will wear it because it looks … well, antique . Over time, dirt and grime can get deep into the tiny crevices on a piece of jewelry and make it look less than optimum – no matter how beautiful the piece is. You've probably wear that special jewelry item more often if you could spruce it up a little, but since it's an antique you might be hesitant to clean it. How do you know what kinds of materials are safe to use? Here is some advice about what you can do to clean a special piece of antique jewelry, so that you can enjoy wearing it instead of hiding it in your jewelry box.

When you're looking at different jewelry cleaning solutions, the first thing you should do is read the label carefully. Make sure it does not contain any alcohols or acids, such as ammonia or vinegar. These are strong chemicals that can harm the finish on antique jewelry, as well as any stones or mountings that are in the setting.

Common sense might lead you to think that good old soap and water might be a good choice for cleaning your jewelry, but actually that is not true. First of all, it would probably leave a soapy residue on your antique jewelry, and further dull the finish and the clarity of any stones or gems it contains. Even worse, water can dissolve any mounting materials that are used in the piece, such as glues. If that happens, you might lose the stones from the piece, which would indeed be a shame.

If the main problem with your piece of antique jewelry is simply dust, then you can just use a very soft toothbrush to clean deep into its crevices. Use the absolute softest toothbrush that you can find, and make sure that it's a brand new brush. Old toothbrushes might be fine for cleaning around the kitchen sink, but they definitely will not do for cleaning jewelry. There might be toothpaste residue in an old toothbrush that scratch and dull the finish on your jewelry piece.

Whatever method you choose to clean your antique jewelry, it's very important to make sure that it dries very thoroughly after you're done, and especially before storing it in your jewelry box. The slightest bit of dampness can contribute to rust, pitting on plated metals, verdigris, and other unpleasances.

So that's basically it – make sure that you use a safe cleaning solution, and treat your piece of antique jewelry very gently by using a very soft toothbrush. If you're still uncomfortable about doing it on your own, you always have the option of taking it to a professional jeweler, of course. Many jewelry stores will provide this service for free, too. Whatever you do, just make sure that you do not do anything to modify your antique jewelry. Any significant changes to the original setting can have a drastic effect on its value as a collectible.

History of Strength and Conditioning Science

Early records of strength training date back to 3600 BC when Chinese emperors made their subjects exercise daily (Webster 1976). During the Chou Dynasty subjects were required to pass weight- lifting tests before entering the military. There is large amount of evidence that indicates weight training was part of life in ancient Greece and India. In fact, the Greeks built numerous sculptures of people lifting stone weights.

Numerous systems of training have been proposed over the years. The accumulation of experience and different philosophies has led us to the current training methods utilized today. Keep in mind; many authorities have varied greatly from the original purpose of strength and conditioning. Hard work and dedication formed the foundation of earlier training methods. Today the opposite has occurred in numerous settings as easy work and quick fixes form the foundation of most people’s regimens.

During the 16th century in Europe books on weight training began to surface. Sir Thomas Elyot’s book on the topic was published in England in 1531. Joachim Camerius, a lecturer at Leipzig University, wrote several books in 1544 recommending that weight training should be a key activity offered in the model school. John Paugh published a book in 1728 titled A Physiological, Theoretic and Practical Treatise on the Utility of Muscular Exercise for Restoring the Power to the limbs, which pointed out the benefits offered by weight training for rehab purposes. In the 1860’s, Archibald Maclaren, devised the first formal system of physical training with dumbbells and barbells for the British Army.

The showmen and strongman entertainers of the 19th Century heavily contributed to methods used today in the fitness and Sports Conditioning industry. From extensive research iron game historian David Webster credits Italian circus and fairground performer, Felice Napoli as the one who popularized strongman performances on an international scale. Disciples of Napoli include Professor Attila (Louis Durlacher) and Eugen Sandow (Frederick Muller). Attila became well known and he attracted some of the world’s most well known physical culturists and many rulers of Europe. His list of students included King George of Greece, King Edward of England, Crown Prince Frederick who became King Haakon of Norway, the six children of King Christian of Denmark, the Queen Mother Alexandra of England, Princess Dagmar (Empress of Russia and mother of Tsar Nicholas), and the Duchess of Cumberland.

At the time training the wealthy was a much respected occupation. We have what we call personal trainers today. The current protocols used by the majority of today’s trainers are a far cry from the original teachings and benefits provided by trainers. The fame and notoriety of trainers of those days was a result of the public displays of extraordinary physical feats. These events were often attended by royalty and were highly acclaimed for their promotion of physical well-being.

Eugen Sandow, born in Koningsberg in East Russia in 1867, was recruited for his teachings by presidents and rulers from around the world. Nine kings and queens and many princes of Europe, as well as US presidents William Taft and Woodrow Wilson endorsed Sandow’s book Life is Movement. Sandow was a successful strongman as well as a promoter of formal fitness and health management. He emphasized that physical education and sport should be an integral part of the school system. He also toured the world lecturing and promoting physical culture as a means of improving the quality of life.

Most authorities recognize Sandow, as one of the most important figures in the history of fitness, with the history of his work revealing that the modern phenomenon of science based fitness training is not a novel invention. Sandow promoted the importance of strength and skill as being the cornerstone of fitness. A half a century later Dr Kenneth Cooper proposed that being fit was primarily dependent on aerobic conditioning. Approximately 25 years later the important role of strength training has once again been recognized by the academia.

In Russia during the same period Vladislav Krayevsky founded the St Petersburg Amateur Weightlifting Society (1885). Many respected scientists, athletes; artists became his students, including famous strongman George Hackenschmidt, who credited Krayevsky for teaching him all he knew. Hackenschmidt mentioned in his book The Way To Live that some of the world’s strongest men of the era, including Sandow were trained using Krayevsky’s system.

Krayevsky’s work and the popularity of his students had a major effect on weightlifting in Russia. Not only was he a renowned teacher, but he also achieved significant numbers in barbell lifts himself. He was the president of the jury at the first world championships in Vienna in 1898.

Krayevsky wrote two of his fundamental works during the period of 1896-1899. The writings were titled The Catechism of Health-Rules for Athletes and The Development of Physical Strength with Kettlebells and without Kettlebells. The …

Sparkle and Shine With Jewels On a Dime

There are plenty of things in the world which are strictly overrated. The non-existence of sensibility, women and jewelry in the same sentence is supposed to be one of them! However, what the moderators of such a concept fail to understand is how smart we have become, as soon as we invented or discovered fashion jewelry.

Moreover, here is a chance for most men to gift something actually affordable which we might like! What's so insensible about that now, eh? The best thing about fashion or costume jewelry is that how you actually stand to be unique, no matter what the approach.

The Versatility
My affair with fashion jewelry began when I was pretty young and loved to dance. On a completely different, not so unrelated note, somehow precious metals and expensive stones never interested me much.

Instead, I was always more into making things, coming up with new ideas and yes using wastes to recycle and wear them as jewelry. Something similar to such trends is probably is why fashion jewelry has gained so much popularity all over the world. You might weave a necklace out of screws and it will still pass off, as long as you can carry it off well.

The Best Places to Hunt
Even if you are lacking in the department of imagination and creativity, following simple basics will always work for you. For starters, find what you are comfortable with. If beads are what seem to suit you, go with it. Furthermore, stick to vintage designs in fashion jewelry if nothing else crosses your mind. Just make sure it matches some item of your clothing or accessories. However, if you can carry it off, wearing items of jewelry which is an absolute contrast to your clothes will totally nail it too!

For the ones who are dying to explore and make something of your own, here is a list of where you should look for.

• The Garage or Storeroom: This is probably the best place to start with, if you really want to create something with everything that has been kind of demolished. From pieces of colored metal, to glass, to ruined and unhealthy pieces of beads, to wood, gather around ladies!

• Nanny's Basket: You have no idea how much fun you will have looking for wonderful pieces of thingamajigs and combining them together to create something new. From pieces of wool, to vintage clasps, to broken pieces of Nanny's jewelry, everything works.

• Nature's Lap: This is perhaps the best time for you to show how exotic things can look with items of jewelry made from Nature. The simplest of ideas will of course involve fresh flowers. However, if you really want to hit a chord, try to do something with old leaves and most importantly barks and twigs of trees.

• Flea Markets and Garage Sales: No surprises there. You name it and you have most definitely got it. Neverheless, do not forget to check pavement and makeshift sales which are generally Sunday Church specials. You will not believe the kind of pieces and raw materials you might be able to get your hands on, especially vintage fashion jewelry dating back to the '50s Hollywood.

So as the festivals set in, here is your chance to look trendy by choosing to do something different. Have loads of fun ladies, Cheers!
