What Made Native American Peoples Vulnerable to Conquest by European Adventurers?

What made Native American peoples vulnerable to conquest by European adventurers?

There were several traits which made the Native American’s vulnerable to conquest by European adventurers. First, the people themselves were ill equipped to deal with the European invaders. Their numbers were quickly reduced as a result of famine, forced labor, epidemics involving contact with European diseases and wars.

They were unaccustomed to the economic, political and military aspects associated with the Europeans. They lacked the organization and political unity to resist the conquering people. The various tribes were frequently in conflict with one and other as they went about their daily lives competing with each other for land and food. As an example over the years the Aztecs accumulated many enemies especially within their own tribe. This conflict resulted from competition for territorial rights, acquisition of wealth and the practice of using their captive enemies as religious sacrifices. Cortés exploited this trait by forming alliances with the opposing tribes. In contrast to the Aztecs lack of unity the Spanish explorers were a highly unified society.

The Native Americans possessed the necessary skills to work with copper but failed to develop those needed to smelt iron thus they lacked sufficient technology to wage war upon the invaders. When the Europeans arrived in the New World they were welcomed by the Native Americans. The Indians regarded their visitors as wonderful warriors with their dress, beards, and their ships but more so for the technology they brought with them. The native population was amazed at this technology such as their steel knives and swords, the arquebus which is a sort of muzzle loader, the cannon, copper and brass kettles, mirrors, hawk bells and earrings which were used as trading goods, along with other items which were unusual to their way of life. This was rightfully so since the natives lacked the ability to create these amazing inventions used by the Europeans. Unfortunately the European visitors used their weapons of war inflicting great amounts of damage to the natives.

It did not take long before serious problems began to develop. Upon the arrival of the Europeans there were 7 million Native Americans in North America. Most lived in hunter-gather or agricultural types of communities. The largest problem encountered by the Native Americans was their lack of immunity toward European diseases. This lack of immunity in these communities towards the European diseases took their toll among the Indian tribes. Smallpox was a common threat frequently contracted by the Indians from the European people.

The Native Americans soon began to dislike the Europeans and their beliefs. They often viewed the white man as despicable and stingy with their wealth. This was something that the Indians had not previously encountered. In their social order things were freely shared. The explorers were deemed to be insatiable in their desire for furs and hides. They particularly disliked the European’s intolerance for their religious beliefs, eating habits, sexual and marital arrangements and other aspects of their customs.

The Native Americans were used to being in tune with the spirit of nature but to the Europeans nature was an obstacle in their path. They viewed the gifts of nature as an endless supply of resources such as the forest having an abundance of timber, a beaver colony possessing unlimited pelts and the buffalo with many robes. To the explorers even the Native American’s were deemed a resource ripe for religious conversion or as a means of free labor.

Shed That Winter Coat and Get Back Into Your Summer Clothes

Did you gain weight over the winter? If so, you’re not alone; it happened to many people. But don’t fret. Spring is in the air and it’s finally time to shed your winter coat and reverse the winter weight gain. Get off to a good start by checking out the solutions to some all-too-common weight loss challenges.

CHALLENGE: Striving for perfection.

Solution: Every choice you make will not be perfect when it comes to dieting and weight loss. But that’s not necessary for you to reach your goal. Instead, strive to do your best on most days. If (when) you do slip-up, shake it off and get right back on track at your very next meal – or the very next day. And always remember, nobody gains weight from one rich dinner or a single slice of cake. The real trouble starts when you allow that one “splurge” to snowball into an all-out eating frenzy. Take it one meal at a time and learn to forgive yourself; every dieter has slip-ups, but the successful ones know how to keep those occasional lapses contained.

CHALLENGE: Eating breakfast every day.

Solution: Studies show that eating breakfast actually helps weight loss and is associated with better weight control over time. When you eat breakfast, your body feels nourished and satisfied, making you less likely to overeat the rest of the day. Breakfast doesn’t need to be complicated or time consuming – and healthy choices are endless. Make time for a quick and nutritious breakfast such as whole grain cereal, low-fat milk and fresh fruit; all you need is 5 minutes.

CHALLENGE: Staying energized and focused.

Solution: Many of the so-called “health foods” being marketed to people who are trying to lose weight are exactly the opposite of healthy. They are highly processed, filled with artificial ingredients, and lacking in nutrients. It’s no wonder so many people on diets feel fatigued, less focused, and wanting more. One of the best ways to stay satisfied, energized, and on track with your weight loss plan is to eat nutrient-rich foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables; whole grains; legumes such as beans, peas, and lentils; nuts and seeds; and lean meats, poultry and fish. Keep the highly processed foods, convenience foods, and fast foods to a minimum.

CHALLENGE: Dealing with cravings.

Solution: When you feel like eating at a time that is not part of your plan ask yourself the question, “Am I really hungry or is this just a craving?” Hunger is your body’s way of telling you that you need fuel; it’s a physiological response. A craving, on the other hand, is usually triggered by a psychological need. Learn to listen to your body and figure out what it is trying to tell you. See if you can delay eating and ride out the craving. If you can’t, and you find this happening frequently, perhaps you need something other than food. You may want to seek out psychological support.

CHALLENGE: Feeling deprived and tempted to cheat.

Solution: Making a commitment to lose some weight doesn’t mean you need to give up all of your favorite foods. In fact, this approach can actually work against you. Being too strict can lead to feelings of deprivation and this is a sure fire way to set yourself up for a cheat. And once that happens, you’re likely to feel disappointed, discouraged, and ready to quit. Instead of cutting out your favorite foods altogether, eat them in moderation. For example, buy one fresh bakery cookie instead of a whole box. To lose weight, make better choices overall, but don’t completely give up the foods you love.

Choosing The Right Necklace Clasps For Your Pieces

When you are making jewelry you want to choose the right components so that people can wear your items with confidence. You do not want to put the wrong necklace clasps on your items and have your jewelry fall off of the necks of the wearers.

Choosing the right necklace clasps will entail you thinking about the material the item is fashioned from, the type of person, or activities the person that will be wearing it will be engaging in, and the average age of the person that will be wearing the item.

There are five basic types of necklace clasps available for you to choose from. These are:

• The box necklace clasps are usually rectangular in shape, but they may also be square. They have a tongue section that will slide into a groove. These fasteners usually can be opened and closed with only one hand so they are very popular. The real reason for their popularity lies in the fact that they fasten tightly and they are very hard to come undone so people do not lose as many necklaces that have these fasteners. These are great fasteners to place on jewelry you make for children to wear.

• The hook necklace clasps consists of a hook that slips through a link in a chain, or through a ring to form the necklace. They are easy to operate so they are great for the elderly wearer, but they come undone very easily so they are risky for anyone that is going to be active to wear.

• The spring necklace clasps are possibly the most secure of all necklace fasteners. They are made up of two separate rings. One of the rings will have a nub that can be pressed causing the ring to separate so that it can be slipped over the other ring and form a linked bond. They can be tricky to open and close when they are small, but they are secure, and they hold in place when with the jewelry is put under stresses.

• The lobster claw necklace clasps work on the same basic principle that the spring clasps work on. The difference is that the spring clasps have two rings that hook together, and on the lobster clasp there is one oval shaped section with a spring latch that will open when a nub is compressed. Necklaces that have these clasps can be worn when you are engaged in just about any activity because the clasps are secure and hold tightly. These clasps are great for jewelry that will be worn by children and the elderly.

• The toggle necklace clasps consist of a straight bar that fits through a ring. These are designed so that the weight of the necklace will hold the item shut. Necklaces that feature these clasps should be worn when you will not be engaged in strenuous activities. It is very easy for the straight bar to slip out of the ring causing the item of jewelry to fall.

A Thorough Survey Before Buying Computer and Accessories Online

Computers are more than just needs, nowadays. We have become so much tech-savvy & dependable, that we need to take the help of the computers in our every single action. But as money is related to it, as a buyer, acquiring the accessories on the basis of your immediate requirements needs you to keep some factors in your mind before purchasing any one of them.

Printers: Gone are the days when you had to Xerox your documents out or copy them by yourself. The printer is one of the technical blessings that facilitates this problem. However, though most of the users have shifted to laptops for the ease of usage, they still look out for the mouse to make it handy & comfortable.

Students & servicemen are the major users of the scanning machines, who need to scan a huge number of documents. Today, you can find scanner, printer & Xerox in one machine altogether that facilitates the usage and saves time.

Speakers: Nonetheless, speakers are as important as other computer and accessories. With a huge amount of videos, songs & audio files to listen to, speakers are the ones you should need. A speaker with a good sound quality & amenities can help you to get a serene audible experience. A home theater is the extended version of the speakers which fills your home with sound. Speakers give your computers an additional essence and make them loud.

Headphones: With speakers, headphones are needed too. Headphones help to listen to anything individually. They separate your personal experience and prevent them to be shared with others. A headphone with great audible facilities can be proved healthy for your ears.

With the upgrading & experimenting in this field, every day some new accessories are coming up which facilitates the usage day by day.

Fashion After 40

With so many designers and trends targeting the svelte body
of the twenty-something, is it possible to look fashionable
as the years pass and your body begin to tell the tale?

Absolutely!

In fact, with a little ingenuity and sleigh-of-hand, it's
easy to be fashionable and stylish regardless of how many
candles are on your birthday cake.

Now let's be frank: unless you work out religiously, you
probably do not have the same body at 40, 50, or 60 that you
did at 25. Time, gravity, and pregnancy all take their toll
on the female body, as does menopause. And when you mix a
mature body with fashions obviously made for a younger
person, it can lead to self-doubt, frustration, and
confusion.

But it does not have to be that way. Getting older also
means getting wiser, and like a fine bottle of wine, you're
improving with age. So you do not have the same body as
those twenty-somethings you see in magazines or on TV. So
what? Would you REALLY trade everything you've learned
Since your twenties for the body you had back then?
Probably no sooner than you'd like to re-live puberty,
thank you very much.

So how can you be fashionable without wearing all those
body-conscious clothes so en vogue these days? By
remembering the "3 C's" when you dress: clean, classic, and
coverage.

CLEAN

Clean lines create a clean silhouette which makes the body
appear more youthful by skimming the trouble spots instead
of calling attention to them. Complicated cuts, seams, and
details usually call for a killer body to pull off, so if
you have not got it, steer clear of those styles.

CLASSIC

Classic styles are called classic because they remain in
style year after year. Why? Because they look good on so
many bodies! Sheathes, A-line skirts, flat front pants –
all tend to flatter a variety of shapes. What's more,
because they remain in style year after year, classics are
easier on the budget than trends.

COVERAGE

Covering approbably is the key to aging gracefully. If
your upper arms, thighs, and décolletage have all seen
better days, it's time to cover them up a bit instead of
sharing the wear-and-tear with the world. Now I'm not
talking about draping yourself in a tent for the rest of
your life. Far from it. I'm talking about wearing short
sleeves instead of going sleeveless, Capris instead of
shorts, and modest necklines instead of plunging necklines.

Now I know that covering up the parts that used to turn
heads and draw envy can be tough to take for some women.
Which is precisely why beautiful jewelry and fine fabrics
are the revenge tools of choice for many well-dressed
mature women.

So your bustline is not as perky as your twenty-something
daughter or granddaughter. So what? Add a beautiful
necklace and draw envious glances from women of all ages.
Do not have the same backside you did as a teen? Encase it
in a fine fabric and see how many men go out of the way to
hold the door open for you. People will look where you
focus their attention, so use that knowledge to redirect
their interest to the parts you want them to see.

Or, as actress Cybil Shepard once said, "I like to flaunt
what I have left. "

Do not flip through fashion magazines and bemoan the fact
that you do not look like the models. Instead, look at the
various fashion elements to determine what will and will not
work for you. Are printed scarves all the rage this year?
Grab a few and be trendy. Are mini skirts the style of
choice? Pass and bank your money.

See how easy this is?

"A woman has the age she deserves," Coco Chanel once said.
You do not have to go under cover and dress "like a little
old lady "just because that's what your mother or
grandmother did. You're your own person.

If you remember to dress in clean lines and classic styles
and cover appropriately, you can still be fashionable – AND
draw long, lingering glances from handsome men – whatever
your age. And if THAT does not make you feel like a
blushing girl again, then honey, nothing I can say will!

The Pros and Cons of Secondhand Clothes

Second hand clothes are common among most people. They are especially a favorite among young people due to their low-cost. Many stores specialize purely in second-hand clothes, where people can drop off their clothes. The quality and price of second-hand clothes differs, and it is possible to get them when they are almost as good as new. Many high-end shoppers dispose of their high-end goods after using them for a relatively short time and give them to second-hand dealers, so it is possible to acquire designer goods at very little cost. This article examines the pros and cons of second-hand clothing.

Advantages

Cheap

The biggest advantage of second-hand clothing is that it is cheaper than new clothing. Most second-hand dealers acquire the clothes at little or no cost, and sell them off at a bargain. When you decide to buy second-hand clothing, you will end up saving a lot of money for other uses. They are convenient for parents with small children, because children tend to outgrow their clothes faster than adults do.

Conservational aspect

With respect to environmental conservation, it is better to give off used clothes to second-hand dealers than to dump them in garbage sites. Old clothes are an eyesore when littered around and degrade natural resources. In case the clothes are too worn out, give them out to recycling plants.

Variety

Second hand clothes give you a variety of fashion fads to choose from at a low-cost. You can get access to modern trends from a range of choices with a strained budget. It is possible to acquire a complete set of clothes of relatively high quality.

Disadvantages

Wear and Tear

At the shop, it is possible to overlook some flaws n the clothes before buying. These flaws include running color, loose seams, tears and permanent stains. Often, you end up discovering these flaws after you have bought the item and taken it home.

Skin Diseases

Many people have contracted skin diseases and infections from second-hand clothes. When buying, most people do not clean the clothes thoroughly, and any germs are passed to the new owners. This can be prevented by soaking the clothes in disinfectant before use.

Tiresome

It is exhausting to sort through clothes trying to find the one that is free of flaws. It is also hard to get one size that fits perfectly. However, many have gotten lucky to get good, high quality clothes at throw away prices in second-hand shops. In the end, it makes the whole shopping experience fun especially due to the great items that you can get from a second-hand shop.

"I Can Only Wear Gold Jewelry" – The Truth About Jewelry Allergies

I can only wear gold jewelry, everything else breaks me out.” How many times did I hear that exact phrase from my mother when I was a child? Every time I would give her jewelry that was her response.

Why does everything but gold break my mother out? Is that statement even true? When I started designing jewelry over ten years ago I decided to find out. I wanted to design jewelry for my mom that she could wear without fear of a breakout. Now I am going to let you in on what I have discovered.

My mother, like many people, develops contact dermatitis when her skin comes in contact with some types of jewelry. Her dermatitis is a result of an allergic reaction to the nickel found in many types of jewelry. Nickel allergies are very common, in fact one out of every seven people are likely to suffer from a nickel allergy. More often, women tend to suffer from nickel allergies than men. Allergy treatment can help with the symptoms of a nickel allergy. Unfortunately once the allergy has developed, a person will remain sensitive to nickel for the rest of their life.

Nickel is found in many types of costume jewelry, especially those that are mass-produced. It may also be found in other everyday items like coins, zippers, eyeglass frames, and cellphones.

So why is my mom allergic to nickel, you may ask. For some reason, which science still does not understand, her body has mistaken nickel (or similar metals like cobalt) as a threat. In response to that threat, her body causes an immune response (aka allergic reaction) to get rid of the threat. This reaction causes her to breakout in an itchy rash. But others could have a more severe reaction to nickel.

Now that I knew what was causing my mother’s breakout, I set out to find out which types of jewelry did not contain nickel.

First I looked at gold jewelry. Generally speaking, yellow gold (above 14 karat) will not cause an allergic reaction. However white gold may. White gold alloys contain nickel and other “white” metals to produce its silver coloring. One out of every nine people will react to the nickel in white gold.

Another form of gold jewelry is gold filled or “GF” jewelry. Gold filled jewelry metal is created when a base metal is coated with a layer of gold. Gold filled differs from gold-plated by the amount of gold applied. The layer used in gold filled jewelry is typically 50 to 100 time thicker that the layer used to coat gold-plated products.

Next I looked at silver jewelry. For those who are nickel sensitive, fine silver and sterling silver are great choices for “white” metals.

Fine silver is by definition 99.9% pure silver. Jewelry is generally not made of fine silver because the metal is extremely soft and does not withstand normal wear and tear well.

Most silver jewelry is made using sterling silver. Sterling silver is by definition 92.5% pure silver. In most cases, the remaining 7.5% metal is copper. Copper is infused to harden the silver and make it more durable. I use this type of sterling silver in my jewelry designs it is a great metal for nickel allergic people. Sometimes you can distinguish sterling silver by a “925” mark found on the jewelry. This is common on manufactured pieces, but may not be present on artisan jewelry.

Some other metals that are considered safe for people with nickel allergies are:

Copper – Copper jewelry is generally considered pure and not mixed with nickel or nickel alloys.

Platinum – Platinum jewelry contains 95% platinum and 5% of a secondary metal typically iridium.

Titanium – Titanium jewelry is both hypoallergenic and durable. It is a highly recommended metal for those who suffer from nickel allergies.

Niobium – This is a relatively new metal in the jewelry industry. It is a rare earth metal that can be anodized (naturally coated with beautiful colors). Like titanium, this metal is recommended for nickel allergy sufferers, especially those looking for a pop of color.

Since I have given you a list of safe metals, I thought I would also give you a list of metal terms to watch out for when you are shopping for jewelry.

Fashion or costume jewelry typically has base metals that include nickel. Sometimes these metals are plated; however that plating will wear off over time exposing the skin to the base metals. If you choose a plated metal, remember that it will need to be re-plated regularly.

Some have suggested that brass may be a hypoallergenic option. However my research has suggested that brass is sometimes alloyed with small amounts of nickel or even lead to strengthen the metal.

German silver or nickel …

Designer Handbags – A Beginner’s Guide to Purchasing

Are you ready to purchase your first designer handbag? Whether you’re upgrading your accessories due to entering the corporate world after college or just ready to splurge a little on yourself for that special occasion, purchasing your first authentic designer handbag is a rewarding experience both the moment you purchase it, and every day after that you carry it on your person. That’s right; this is one purchase you will never regret! So now that you are ready to purchase, how will you know if what you’re paying for is authentic? Where should you start shopping? Moreover, how can you get the best price? Here are a few tips to help you find the right handbag at the right price for your budget.

Let the buyer beware! Not all handbags that are sold under the designer’s brand name are indeed authentic! Some of these dealers are upfront and disclose to the buyer that they are not genuine. Some of the terminology you will see for these types of distributors will be words like “replica” “faux” “mirror image” “designer inspired” “copy” and “knock – off.” They range from being very poor representations of the designer brand that they mimic to being extremely difficult to distinguish. Subsequently then, how will you, a novice, be able to tell the difference?

Here is a list of just some of the basics of what to look for when shopping for an authentic designer handbag. First, the handbag should be made from the highest quality material. This is where the iconic designers differ from the rest. From leather to fur, they choose only the best. Secondly, the stitching on the bag will be even with no loose, tangled or missing thread. Even the logo on the bag will be engraved into the material, never printed onto it. Great designers pride themselves on their workmanship and this is their place to show off their handiwork. Third, the hardware on the handbag will be quality weighted pieces with no color variations in them and covered with plastic until time of purchase where no scratches will occur. The designer’s logo will be engraved into the metal not merely printed or even embossed onto it. These handbags truly are a work of art which is why their price is much higher than the average designer. Every effort is made to make each handbag the very best. Fourth, look for a serial number. Most, yet not all of the manufacturers give serial numbers to each handbag. And lastly, yet one of the most unique ideas they utilize, is a small credit card sized piece of plastic called an “authenticity certificate card“. This usually has the designer logo on the front and a magnetic strip across the back with a written guarantee to cover all manufacturing defects. There is also a place to input the date of purchase and the shop.

The buyer should also know that most designers only agree to sell through registered boutiques. In these brick and mortar stores, you can rest assured that no matter how much you choose to spend on your new handbag (and you will pay top dollar here), it will be authentic as well as brand new, with tags, dust bags and authenticity cards included. You’ll see the designer’s logo right down to the tissue paper and paper bag you carry it out of the store in, but this is not the only place you can purchase an authentic designer handbag. Read on.

Of course you can watch for these handbags to go on sale before you purchase them. And I advise going into the boutiques first to scrutinize all the details I’ve mentioned here before trying some of the other places that I’m about to tell you to try. That way you will be familiar with what a genuine item should look like and be able to make a more educated comparison.

There are many places and ways to find a great designer handbag without paying top dollar for it. One option is looking at outlets which will carry items that are either discontinued, mildly defective or merely an older model. These factors can be very insignificant, and you can find some great buys. Another option is purchasing online. The World Wide Web has made every designer and distributor very accessible to those who use the internet. Virtual stores can and do have genuine authentic designer handbags and purses that are purchased from wholesalers and resold. Because they do not have to pay rent for a brick and mortar store, they are able to offer their customers discounted prices on many of the same handbags. Another advantage these e-commerce stores have is the ability to “carry” large inventory that you normally wouldn’t find in a normal store because of …

Importance of Computer Accessories

Computers have become really advanced with wide varieties of accessories attached to it. We can define an accessory as a device which is attached to a computer but is not a part of it. The functionality of an accessory depends on the computer it is attached to. A computer has to be equipped with all the necessary accessories in order to carry out all the tasks in more efficient way. There are two forms of accessories one is basic accessories and other is an advanced accessories.Basic accessories available are speakers, printers, scanners, UPS, surge protector, headsets, cases and covers, cleaning and repair kits etc. Advance computer accessories include webcam, microphones, gaming equipments, portable storage devices, CD and DVD recordable drives, network accessories, modem.

These computer accessories make each task very fast and easy for example if you have a personal printer connected to your PC then there is no need to go to any office to get the document printed. The most important computer device is the UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply), it provides a continuous power supply to a computer so that no data should be lost. A Headset comes with a built-in microphone so you can not only listen to music but also make a call from your computer to other computer or phone. Webcam allows taking pictures or recording your video or can be used to have a live chat with anyone through internet.

Portable storage devices like USB flash drives can be used to transfer data. The capacity of these devices varies from 8 to 12 Gigabytes. Rewritable CDs and DVDs are also other source of transferring and storing data. If above devices are not enough for transferring data then we can also go for networking accessories such as LAN cables or modem. These networking devices can be used to transfer data within a Local Area Network or over internet.

Most of the laptops have built-in wireless internet which enables the traveler to access the internet while traveling. Important features of the mini laptops are the external monitor support and S video used to connect it to TV. A wireless laptop mouse is a great accessory. A desktop computer also comes in amazing all-in -one features which includes touch screen, Wi-Fi, color choices, built-in webcams, and TV tuners.

In order to buy a new desktop computer one needs to know that there are standard accessories which comes with the computer like speaker, keyboard, mouse, monitor. But there are some which has to be purchased separately like webcams, UPS, modem, external hard disk etc. But in case of a laptop, webcam, speakers etc comes as built-in devices. Other devices to be purchased are portable laptop desks to prevent laptop burn and provide comfortable working position. Universal Laptop power adapters, portable projector, mobile printers, wireless laptop mice, laptop speakers are some of the other computer accessories to be purchased while buying a laptop.

Taking Care Of Your Leather Cord Necklace

Today jewelry is seen as a valuable, popular and the most elegant type of accessory which are for both men and women. Leather cord necklaces are said to be one of the most popular type of jewelry. Maintaining of jewelry is very important if one wishes to maintain the shine of their jewelry. Cleaning and maintaining of leather cord necklaces can be very challenging for anyone and may require one to buy specialized cleaning products which are very expensive.

Tips For Maintaining Your Leather Cord Necklace

If treated well, your leather cord necklace will last a long time. Most expensive types of leather necklaces are not treated which means that they will age gracefully. They will also have the character of an expensive leather necklace that is unique and distinct. Here are some tips on how to maintain your leather necklace.

– Store your necklace in a dust bag cover. Do not store it with other jewelry items, especially those made of metals. You must also not use a plastic bag to store your leather jewelry.

Tee Shirt Printing – Whether to Make Your Own Custom Printed T-Shirts Or Have Them Printed For You

If you are thinking of getting tee shirt printing for a project you are deliberating, one of the options you may have come up with is to investigate your options. This article will explain the options between doing it yourself and having a tee shirt printer make your custom printed t-shirts.

A main consideration is what color of t-shirts will you be using for your tee shirt printing? There are no major issues when you print on white tee shirts.

However, when you are doing custom printed t-shirts using light color shirts remember that there is no white ink in your printer so if you had a picture with three people who are dressed in white t-shirts and there were white clouds in the sky then every white area in the image would be the same color as the tee shirt. If you have light blue t-shirts then the t-shirts on the people in your photo and the clouds would be light blue.

Another factor to consider when printing on light color t-shirts is the ink from your printer will somewhat blend with the color of the t-shirt. A while back I printed light blue ink on bright yellow t-shirts. That area became greenish. This is like when we were young and would take yellow with red crayons to get orange. This only occur with light ink colours on bright light coloured t-shirts. The shading is not normally significant but it is something to be aware of. Darker ink colors are really not a concern.

The t-shirt transfer paper you would buy would be for white or light color tee shirt printing. If you want to print on black or any dark t-shirt you would want to have t-shirt transfer paper that is specifically for printing on dark colors.

Printing your transfers can be done with with a laser or an inkjet printer. But, before you print your image you must flip the image to reverse it so that when it is printed it will view properly. With some software programs this is easy since they have a “flip” or “mirror” setting. With programs like Word this is normally a bit more difficult. To be positive that you have properly reversed the image, print a copy and put it in front of a mirror. This is the way it will look on your personalized t-shirt.

You need to be sure to set your printer to the correct type of paper. Usually, you’ll set it to heavy or card stock.

To get the best look you need to trim around the perimeter of the image that is not used. For example; if you had a picture of the earth and “Save Our Planet” in writing directly underneath it, you would trim around the outside of all of the printing. Often with tee shirt transfers there is a a yellowish hue around the printing. This is caused by the coating on the transfer paper that bonds the ink to the shirt.

A good tee shirt printer will trim away this excess but even more importantly will have a printer/t-shirt transfer combination that when the tee shirt is printed the unprinted parts are essentially transparent and don’t have this problem.

When you are ready to press your transfer onto the shirt, if you are pressing with a hand iron you need to follow the instructions to get the best results.

When I first began making t-shirts back in the ’90s it took me eleven minutes to press the shirts with an iron and even then about half of them still had ink left on the paper. Because the results weren’t to my satisfaction I purchased a heat press. A heat press is a machine designed specifically for custom tee shirt printing. You can choose the desired temperature you need and then press the shirt for the number of seconds required.

The heat press that I and several other commercial tee shirt printers use permits the temperature, time and pressure to be set. This gives a perfect press time after time.

It is to be noted that the transfer paper used by professional tee shirt makers need to be applied with a commercial heat press. You are not able to iron these transfers on.

The supplies that you’ll need to make your custom printed t-shirts in addition to a computer and a printer, obviously will be t-shirts. You’ll likely want to use 100% cotton t-shirts that are preshrunk or 50/50 tee shirts.

You’ll also need t-shirt transfer paper. You can buy this specialty paper at places like Office Depot, Staples, Office Max, craft stores like Michael’s and Wal-Mart. If you are using an inkjet printer make sure you get paper suited for an inkjet printer and likewise if you have a laser printer.

Marketing at The App Store

It is always nice when you got several million dollars to spend it all in a big marketing budget. You can do traditional advertising, a little TV ad perhaps. Unfortunately most app developers aren’t in that situation and usually it’s a shoestring budget and sometimes with no money at all to spend on marketing their app.

So what they depend on is, what sort of traffic can they generate on the stores? You have to look very carefully at how the store is structured to run a series of experiments. Be willing to run several experiments and see what works best. Try it for about a week and see how it goes and be willing to change it which means you need to be watching very carefully how the traffic is working, and how many people are downloading or using your app.

A lot of developers are making mistakes of changing things of several things at the same time which we don’t recommend because you won’t be able to tell which one is actually working and which one is not. So one at a time, you can try strategies and then if it doesn’t work go and try another one and see how it goes. So be willing to experiment and make sure that they are carefully controlled experiments and make sure that they are controlled the right way.

Second, is to look at the structure of the site and think about the process by which a customer is coming to you in deciding to get your application. Think of it kind of as though, people are standing in line for a movie and that you are always losing people out of the line. Maybe, they are vaguely interested at the start, but now it is not moving fast enough and they are going to drift off or get out of the line. And every point in time you will be shedding customers.

So you have to think of ways how to reduce that process by which you are shedding customers. How do you suck them in as quickly as possible? How do you keep them standing in line? How do you get them in lobby and make them sit as quickly as possible so that they can buy your popcorn?

Understanding how the users search for an app, that is gonna get you to a list. Make sure you are high on that particular list. So understanding the standard keywords that your users are likely to use for a search.

What Is a Charm Bracelet?

Charm bracelets have been around for thousands of years, but the trend for wearing them has changed and developed dramatically during this time.

For instance, one of the most iconic images of a charm bracelet is that of bored jeweller Tiffany and Co, who introduced their first charm bracelet in 1889. This was a silver link bracelet with just one charm, a dangling heart. This heart charm has since gone on to become something of a trademark for Tiffany's.

Charm bracelets and the wearing of charms dates back as far as 600 BC with materials such as clay and bone being used. It is also thought that back then charms were worn as a sort of talisman to represent good luck and fight off evil spirits.

The meaning and functionality of charm bracelets has also changed with time. In wartime, soldiers would bring home charms as a form of trinket for their loved ones, something made by a local craftsman that could be kept and worn as a memento of the place in which the soldier saw action. The 1950s saw these bracelets popularized by children, who would collect charms to represent different events and special occasions that occurred as they were growing up.

However, the latest incarnation of charm bracelets have been largely created in Europe, particularly Denmark where the brand Trollbeads led the resurgence during the seventies. These charm bracelets were of a modular design, meaning that charms were built to fit a particular threaded system employed by that make. For example, Pandora, another Danish jeweller and currently the market leader with over 900 different types of charms, uses a patented system which means their charms will not fit on other bracelets. These systems also ensure that charms fit securely onto their intended bracelet, where they can be added and removed with ease.

In addition, many charm companies include optional spacers or clips, which are a form of smaller charm that remain in a fixed position on the bracelet as a way of sectioning off charms and stopping them from sliding around the bracelet. Other brands that use threading systems in their bracelet design include Lovelinks by Aagaard, Chamilia and Links of London.

Since Europe leads the charge when it comes to manufacturing these charm systems, they also proved to be hugely popular in North America. The main draw of these more modern charm systems is the versatility they offer. Bracelets are still available as chain links, and these can take a limited number of dangling charms. However, more common are the solid bracelets which charms can be twisted onto. The bracelets are typically available in polished silver, oxidised silver, gold and sometimes leather.

Likewise the charms are crafted from a number of different materials and this, along with their design can affect the price veryly. Usually charms, or beads as they are sometimes referred to, are made from sterling silver, but are also available with enamel detail, semi-precious stones and gemstones, 14k gold and even wood.

Before You Buy a Swiss Aviator Watch, Take a Look at Volmax

As a watch collector and amateur horologist, I’ve noticed one watch company flying under the radar, seemingly overlooked in the clutter of brand names. That company is Volmax, a Russian watch company headquartered in Moscow.

If you are thinking about buying a Breitling or Omega or other brand of pilot or aviator watch, I’d suggest taking a look at Volmax, especially if the prices of the big Swiss brands are making you hesitant.

Though you may not have heard of them, Volmax is not exactly new on the scene. The company was formed in 2000 when a group of experienced watch professionals took over the Poljot factory. Poljot was the most recognized and prestigious name in the history of Russian watchmaking. It could be said that Volmax has taken over where Poljot left off. Indeed, the company has a great pedigree.

Volmax watches are not marketed under the “Volmax” name. Instead, the company produces and markets several different lines. My favorite line of watches under the Volmax umbrella is Aviator, a brand strongly tied to Russia’s rich aviation history.

A good example of a watch in this line is the Hughes Aviator. It’s a classic “aviator” watch in the generic sense of the word. The watch was developed with a marketing tie-in to the movie “The Aviator”, the story of eccentric aviation pioneer Howard Hughes, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio.

The quality of Volmax watches is good and their performance compares favorably to many Swiss aviator-style chronographs — even though some models cost only one-third of the price.

Most Volmax watches are based on the Poljot 3133 chronograph movement, which has been produced since 1975. It’s a reliable, hand-wound movement that serves as the heart of the watch. Other models are equipped with Swiss ETA 2671 and ETA 7750 movements.

Cases for Aviator watches are made of stainless steel. You see, true pilot watches cannot be made of gold or other soft metals.

Another Volmax watch that might interest Omega buyers is the Shturmanskie. The name is a mouthfull, but did you know that the first man in space, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, wore a a Shturmanskie on the cuff of his space-suit during that historic flight?
