Just What Is UV Protection On Sunglasses And Why Is It Important

Sunglasses are great in more ways than one. They can compliment your appearance while preventing you to have to squint while outside on a sunny day. But sunglasses are not simply a fashion accessory to be taken lightly. They are actually of major importance for protecting our eyes from the sun's UV rays which can lead to diseases of the eye when exposed to them over time.

The ultraviolet radiation element in sunlight is divided into two basic areas – UVA and UVB. Sunglasses block both of these types of rays. What exactly is UVA and UVB you ask? Well, UVA represents the ultraviolet radiation that passes through the Earth's ozone layer, reaches our skin and can lead to premature aging. UVB are also ultraviolet rays, but are absorb, in great amount, by the ozone layer. Still, they are very harmful and can contribute to the cause of skin cancer and cataracts.

The lenses of a pair of sunglasses should be dark enough to reduce the glare of bright light, but not so dark that they distort colors in objects, and obviously not so dark that they inhibit your vision. The point is that as long as the lenses are properly tinted, your eyes will be protected. You do not have to go 'crazy' looking for lenses that are so dark that they not only block out the sun's UV rays, but block out the actual sun itself.

The standard UV protectant level in the sunglass industry is UV400 – across the board – which protects the eyes from 98 per cent of the sun's ultraviolet rays. And statistics based on testing results from inexpensive sunglasses as compared to the more expensive brands show that even sunglasses in the $ 5 and below range, provide the same amount of protection as the more expensive variants. So, the good news is, you do not have to pay more for the best level of protection. And for those who wear prescription sunglasses, something else you might be interested in knowing is that the UV level is the same for both those and the store bought versions.

And for even further comfort and assurance, you may be happy to know that sunglass manufacturers have to follow certain FDA regulations. They have to comply with impact requirements – not saying that sunglasses must be completely shatterproof, but that they will at best, withstand a moderate impact. Sunglass manufacturers also have to follow labeling regulations. No doubt if you've ever bought a pair of sunglasses in your lifetime, you've had to peel that removable sticker off the front of one of the lenses either before you put them on or afterwards when you realize that something's obstructing your view.

They say you get what you pay for. Well, if you pay for a pair of sunglasses, you're paying for good eye health.

Mirror Tinted Contact Lenses

Mirror tinted contact lenses are among the radical innovations introduced with today's technology. Surprisingly however, while being a fresh concept, mirror tinted contact lenses could have experienced decades ago with its not-at-all-new technology. But they did not.

Mirror tinted contact lenses are the largest hype and the hottest topic of interest with today's party loving Americans, and the attention it's getting is what made the innovation fresh. And even without those typical undue revelries, these fancy and crazy eye wear are getting second looks as useful proponents suited for daily use.

Mirror tinted contact lenses can be tailored even to reflect UV rays, much similar to sunglasses. It can go even further, darkening in texture if there is too much light, while lightening in the absence of such. It can also be adapted to cater particular needs, such as color enhancing contact lenses that afford more vision to objects. One instance is using yellow enhancement contact lenses for tennis play that would brighten yellow objects like the ball while muting other colors. Same physics would apply with baseball players; a streaking white ball will be easier to spot in a fraction of a second while using specialized lenses. If truth be told and barring production complications, MaxSight will be available for interested ball players that will help filter out blue light so that the white ball stands out better in a moving environment. This blue light filter is similar to the technique employed while filming Sleepy Hollow, where the movie was showing significantly dark and eerie atmosphere even while being shot in clear daylight.

Aside from that, mirror tinted contact lenses have been garnering attention for some time already for cosmetic reasons. By large, the orders for mirror contact lenses are non-corrective, called Plano lenses, and are frequently disposable. Perhaps the biggest influence for these type of mirror tinted contact lenses came from Riddick from the movie "Pitch Black" and its sequel "The Chronicles of Riddick" where the most striking feature of the anti-hero is his silver tinted eye referred to a number of instances, as eyeshine.

Babydolls – Innocent And Yet Naughty

Stroll through the lingerie department and you will see that baby doll lingerie is hot. There are demure satin and lace sets and more risqué sets. What is even more fabulous about babydolls is that they are more affordable than other styles of nightwear. So you can have your risque lingerie and your comfy set too.

Lingerie today comes in every imaginable fabric from satin to pure 100 percent cotton. Lace is no longer irritating to the skin, but soft and subtle. Elastic isn’t stiff but equally stretchy and comfortable. It is a good time to be a woman shopping for lingerie.

Baby dolls lingerie conveys an innocent yet naughty look. When shopping for a new babydoll set, determine the message you want to send to your man. You want to be seen as a pretty princess, choose a lace babydoll. Are you trying to tempt him into bed? Go with a sheer babydoll set. Going for the naughty look? Try perusing the adult exotic lingerie selections on the web.

Beautiful lace baby dolls can be found just about anywhere from discount stores to high end boutiques. The lace elements are usually found in the bodice and along the bottom of the gown and detailing the panties. Often lace is combined with silk or satin. However, some lace babydolls are just that, they are made of lace fabric. They give your viewer a delightful peek a boo hint of your skin. The all lace sets are usually very soft and comfortable to wear.

Sheer babydolls have sheer fabric in the gown. The bodice may be made of lace or satin. But it can also be sheer. The panties may be solid or sheer as well. Sheer fabric is very erotic as it can be seen through but there is just a hint of barrier. This gives your lover something to look forward to taking off of you. When purchasing sheer babydolls, be sure they fit properly. Sheer fabric does not have much give in it and will feel restricted if the item is too small for you.

When shopping for adult exotic lingerie, a baby doll is still a great choice. Exotic lingerie tends to be more revealing and isn’t really designed as sleepwear. However, this should not stop you from considering it. Every woman needs at least one piece of exotic lingerie. We often think of men buying exotic lingerie for us, but why not buy a piece for yourself? Are you planning a weekend getaway or maybe a long vacation? Go lingerie shopping and surprise him with risque lingerie pieces such as a baby doll with a tiny thong.

For everyday sleepwear, baby dolls are cool and comfortable. Many women dislike long gowns as they tend to ride up as we sleep. This problem is solved with a baby doll. The next time you are shopping for new nightwear, consider a cotton or satin babydoll in a fun and colorful fabric. Throw out the tired out T-shirt and put it on. Your husband will be sure to appreciate it.

A quick word about your baby doll panties. The bottom pieces of babydoll sets come in all the styles that panties come in. This means you can have boy cut panties or a sexy thong. Usually the style of panty mirrors that of the baby doll gown. Really it is all up to you, go with what is comfortable or be adventuresome.

Babydolls are a fabulous way to be fun and adventuresome. They are hip, cute and affordable. Let’s go shopping today!

How to Make Money Out of Thin Air

Money-making is one of the strongest desires of human beings. Whether young or old, everybody is thirsty for financial sufficiency. This is why I have decided to X-ray this text entitled “How to Make Money out of Thin Air”.

The text is written by Brian Sher, who obtained a degree in Marketing from the University of South Wales. His subsequent business travels overseas sparked his interest in consultancy, and after spending two years in Los Angeles, he returned to Australia and formed his own company specialising in marketing and business-growth strategies. Working with businesses both big and small, one of his major clients offered to partner him in a new venture – Vision Publishing.

Under Sher’s direction, Vision Publishing experienced phenomenal growth, and ultimately boasted more than $12 million in annual sales. His extensive network and strong reputation as one of Australia’s most dynamic and exciting marketers made him an active and sought-after business coach.

The author says given the title of this book, he can hear the critics sharpening their pencils and the cynics saying “Oh sure, we’ve heard this all before”. Sher admits that this is perfectly understandable as on the surface, making money out of thin air seems like an unbelievable claim.

He confesses that to be honest, he was cynical himself when he first learnt of this practice, adding that but what made him look beyond his initial distrust was that he did not want to work hard for a living. Rather, Sher wanted to work smarter and less to enjoy the finer things in life and have the time to enjoy them.

He says while deciding on how to achieve this, he remembered a statement his father once made, which was “Never work with your hands – it will never make you rich!”

This author submits that although he was not literally working with his hands, he knew he was not far off from this in the wealth-creation stakes, as he was working hard and was not exactly rich. Sher says he had a head full of great ideas and concepts, and was working at a frenetic pace, running around selling these ideas.

The author reveals that he learnt a good living, but that was all, and he needed to learn more. He adds that he needed to learn how and what the rich were doing that he was not. This author says they were making the money and he was just earning it.

Sher explains that he set out to try to change all that by studying what they did, the way they thought and the way they operated, and after a while, he discovered that their habits were not rocket science and it was entirely possible to make money out of thin air.

According to him, if you want to achieve success, it requires nothing more than changing your attitude as you approach your next business venture, and this simple change will be worth millions of dollars to you.

Structure-wise, this book has 15 chapters. Chapter one is entitled “Secrets of the rich”. According to Sher here, “How many times have you heard people use the words ‘make money’? I just want to make money…Thousands of times, I’ll bet, and you’ve probably said them to yourself. Although the words spoken might be identical, what ‘poor people’ (that is, people with a ‘poor’ mentality) mean when they say them is completely different to what the rich mean. The ‘poor person’ looks for ways to do the only thing he or she knows how – that is, to sell more of their time. And this can mean only one thing: working longer or harder.”

Sher educates that when rich people use the words “make money”, they are talking about wealth creation. That is, they never mean selling their time.

In this chapter, the author also discusses other concepts such as unlearning a “poor” mentality; knowing what rich people know; stealing from the rich to give the poor; and a secret file.

Chapter two is based on the interrogative subject of “How rich are you?” Sher quotes Michel De Montaigne here thus: “We are, all of us, richer than we think we are.”

According to the author, almost everyone you know wants to be richer than he or she is at the moment. He says but it is important to understand that being rich in life is not simply about making more money. The author stresses that many people mistakenly believe this is the case.

Sher explains that money is something you can use to get things done and the more money you have, the more things you can do. Many things are more important than money: a loving partner, a supportive family, friends you can trust and depend on, a career you enjoy, submits the …

Lead Glasses – Radiation Protection For the Eyes

Lead glasses are specialized for use during medical procedures where risk of radiation exposure exists. The human eye is one of the most sensitive parts of the body and one of the areas most vulnerable to radiation. In order to properly protect the eyes from harmful x-rays, use of quality leaded glasses is highly recommended.

Many different options of x-ray glasses are available for optimization of usability and protection. Side shields are designed to wrap around leded eyeglasses to further block x-rays from reaching the eyes. Some radiation safety glasses are meant to be worn over regular glasses while other prescription lead safety glasses can be specially made and worn in place of regular eyeglasses.

Many types of x-ray glasses are fitted with comfortable nose pads so that a secure and easy fit is ensured. Lead glasses are often made to be stylish and are designed in a similar style as popular sunglass frames. These leaded eyeglasses better protect the eyes by hugging as close to the as possible.

To keep x-ray glasses in prime working condition, anti-static spray and anti-fog cleaner will help to maintain glass clarity and cleanliness. These radiation goggle accessories will aid in the usability of the leaded eyeglasses and may help to increase the life of the glasses.

The utilization of radiation safety glasses is vital in order to protect medical personnel and patients from the damaging effects of radiation exposure. By implementing leaded glasses into the practice of medical facilities, the risk of harm to those involved in radiation procedures is diminished and none involved need worry about present or future damage to the eyes. Radiation safety glasses are recommended for use in hospitals, dental practices, x-ray laboratories, and any other location where there is risk of radiation exposure to the eye area.

Greenhouse Effect: A Lot of Old Gas?

The world is ending anytime soon, or so the boffins would have us believe. Greenhouse effect, they say; polar ice caps will melt, drown us all, kill everything, in – um – 21xx something, give or take a few million years.

Come on, they’ve got it wrong before: the Titanic was unsinkable, the war will be over by Christmas, Thalidomide is good for us. We’ve heard it all before.

The evidence seems to be there: winters getting milder, summers longer, halcyon days of splendour and sunlight. Today, birds singing at 5am, outside my frost-laden window

Do we care though? The British Way of Strife is to demand warm weather; millions of us go abroad each year, to soak up those rays and come back as brown as toast. Ask any True Brit what he would like most of all, and he’ll say ‘Heat’

The world has evolved over millions of years, and we’ve only been recording the changes for a few hundred. We obviously made it through the Ice Age okay, and there wasn’t the same kerfuffle and sharp intake of breath as there is now. So here is my theory:

The earth is a complex planet. It’s survived over those millennia and still come out smiling. It will take care of things itself.

There’s another problem too: apathy. Most people demand the use of dirty cars, that spew out diesel and petrol fumes; cities demand heat, light, energy; we demand TV, dishwashers, fridges. All these things create undesirable effects in the atmosphere, but do we care? As long as we don’t have to get the Fairy Liquid out, and don our Marigolds, we’re all right thank you very much.

Global warming may, or may not be here, But you are going to have a real struggle getting ordinary folk to change their ways unless their life can be made easier.

… or threaten them

Pet Hammocks

People seem to be easier to train then dogs about learning to find a suitable place to lie down. Of course, we all have family members who choose to use the floor in front of the television set than the couch. But, when we go outdoors we usually choose a hammock hung between two trees or a glider to sit rather than on the wet grass.

The same situation occurs with our pets.

Most of the time, pets lounge indoors wherever they choose unless they have been trained to use a doggies bed. But, for the most part pets are allowed to rest on couches and floors. But, when our best friends go outdoors. do we really want them lying on grass or cement? Our pets are like us. Lying on cold grass can make us sick, give us grass stains or make our arthritis impossible to bear. Our pets can also get sick from lying on grass, get grass mites in their fur and make their joints ache. A reasonable solution is a pet hammock. A pet hammock is different from a people hammock in that the size of the hammock has to be suitable to our pets size.

The hammock has to be easily reached by our pet and has to be of a fabric that our pets will like to lie on. Pet hammocks can be found in pet stores or you can make one for your own pets by using two heavy outdoor pots. Just tie rope to one pot and to the other making sure that it is taut and a little above ground. You can use a favorite doggies or kittie stuffed cushion or a light weight canvas and tie it to the rope. Your hammock will be your pets outdoor seat and a safe one.

NFL 2006: New York Jets

The New York Jets are hoping to bounce back from a dismal 4-12 campaign that saw Herm Edwards pack up and leave for what he believes are greener pastures in Kansas City. New coach Eric Mangini brings the system he learnt under Bill Belichick in New England to New York with the hopes of revitalizing a sagging franchise.

Mangini was busy from the get-go in changing the face of the Jets. Numerous free agents were brought in, some top stars were let go and for once the New York fans loved what the franchise did in the draft. So maybe there’s a ray of light after all?

Offense: This is a unit that has nowhere to go but up. Last season the Jets scored 255 points, only the Cleveland Browns had less. With Chad Pennington getting injured once again and Curtis Martin finally showed signs of age – this offense went nowhere fast.

Pennington returns for another season in Jetsville, but competition has been brought in because Mr. Pennington is as brittle as a dry, dead leaf. The Jets went out and signed Patrick Ramsey from the Washington Redskins. Ramsey’s situation is similar to Joey Harrington’s. He came out of Tulane with a huge reputation and high ratings from the scouts. Instead of living up to that rep, Ramsey has been a career underachiever. He hopes to change that in New York. Brooks Bollinger, last seasons starter, and rookie Kellen Clemens are also in the mix.

Martin was bothered by injuries in 2005, but one has to think that time is finally catching up to the future hall-of-famer. His string of 10 consecutive thousand-yard seasons was snapped (he finished with 735 yards and five touchdowns) and he didn’t seem to have that extra something to shed defenders.

But make no mistake he’s still a threat, even at the ripe old football age of 33. Martin comes into 2006 with 14,101 career rushing yards, 484 receptions and 100 career touchdowns. His presence in the locker room alone is enough to help the Jets. Cedric Houston (302 yards) saw his workload increase late in the season and that could carry over. Derrick Blaylock and rookie Leon Washington will see time as well. B.J. Askew returns at fullback.

Longtime New York fan favorite, Wayne Chrebet, called it a career and the Jets need to find some people to stand up. This was one of the weakest receiving groups in the NFL last season. It didn’t help much that the quarterback position was in flux either.

Lavernues Coles (73-845-5) is the number one and will be counted on to lead this group once again. Justin McCareins (43-713-2) will be the number-two man with Jericho Cotchery playing in the slot. Free agent pickup, Tim Dwight, will be the fourth receiver. Rookie Brad Smith, former quarterback at Missouri, will get a look at wideout as well. Doug Jolley (29-324-1) and Chris Baker (18-269-1) return at tight end.

There could be major changes on the offensive line, thanks to the draft and free agency. Trey Teague was signed away from Buffalo and will take over at center, allowing Pete Kendall to move back to guard. Rookie Nick Mangold will challenge Teague. Brandon Moore will join Kendall at guard. Rookie stud D’Brickashaw Ferguson should step right in at left tackle and start for the next 10 or so years. Adrian Jones will man the right side, but free agent signee Anthony Clement (49ers) also is there.

Defense: This unit is where the biggest change will take place. Mangini was the defensive coordinator for the Patriots and most likely will switch the Jets from a 4-3 to a 3-4. Another factor will be how this unit regroups after the loss of John Abraham. He might not have been a good locker room guy, but his 10.5 sacks will be missed.

In this new look defense, Shaun Ellis and free agent pick up Kimo Von Oelhoffen (Steelers) will be at the defensive end spots. Dave Ball and rookie Titus Adams should see playing time as well. Dwayne Robertson will hold down the nose tackle spot with Adams possible sliding over too.

Jonathan Vilma returns as the unquestioned superstar of the Jets defense. He followed up his Rookie of the Year season with an even more impressive sophomore one. There were no slump here as Vilma racked up 169 tackles and a trip to the Pro Bowl. Victor Hobson, Eric Barton and rookie Anthony Schlegel should make up the rest of the starting corps.

Ty Law took his 10 interception season and left town, but all is not lost at the cornerback position. David Barrett (five interceptions) returns along with Justin Miller, who had a solid rookie campaign. Also added via free agency were Ray Mickens (Browns) and Andre Dyson (Seahawks). …

Top 8 Benefits of Regular Exercise

We all want a lean and healthy body, and regular exercise is the only way to have it. But due to the busy lifestyle in this 21st century, we can barely manage enough time to do it. If you have been thinking about exercising regularly for some time, this article is here to motivate you with reasons why you need to hit the gym right now.

1. For an improved memory

Regular exercise not only provides more oxygen to your brain but also boosts your memory power. Recent studies have shown that increased blood flow due to vigorous exercise has a part to play in improving memory power.

2. For more energy

You may feel tired and weak after an intense training session. But with proper rest and nutrition, you will surely have more energy than ever before.

3. For better sleep

Suffering from insomnia? Do not worry, just start exercising on a regular basis and this problem will be gone in no time. However, remember to exercise in the morning or afternoon instead of right before going to the bed.

4. For a stress-free life

Stress may be a part of your life, but you have the chance to fight it off with regular exercise. Endorphins released in the brain while exercising efficiently reduce stress, making you feel better at all times.

5. For superior immunity

Just exercise 3 to 4 times a week and soon your immune system will be strong enough to fight off flu, viruses and other diseases. Some researches provided that those who exercise regularly are half as likely to get a cold than those who do not do it at all.

6. For better sex

We all know regular exercise helps improve blood circulation all over the body. Thus, it helps increase sexual stimulation and reduces erectile dysfunction.

7. For superior confidence

Hitting the gym on a daily basis helps you look good and stay fit. When you feel better about yourself, you feel confident in doing whatever you do.

8. For living longer

It's a known fact that staying fit and healthy is the key to living a long life and avoiding premature aging. One study found that you will get the same benefits of quitting smoking if you take part in regular training sessions. Moreover, you can expect to add 10 to 20 more years in your life expectancy if you live on a proper diet and stay fit at all times.

Let's admit that it's hard for us to manage even one hour every day to go to the gym. No matter what, you must try your best in order to live a happy and fulfilling life.

The Low-Down on This Summer's Shades

It looks like there is a worldwide plot to alter trends in sunglasses on a nearly yearly basis. It fails of course, but sometimes something that should have never been in the first place becomes a trend through sheer persistence. Growing up we had a drawer in our house that held nothing but sunglasses of every size, shape and color. My parents finally sold that house and while moving them recently we rediscovered the drawer. Inside was a fifty year history of sunglasses in America. My sisters inspected each pair recalling who they belonged to and what vacation they were from or what boy they were dating at the time. My two daughters were of course ecstatic and gleefully picked out the ones they wanted, which was nearly all of them.

Back then only a few designers had gotten into the sunglasses game. We of course had Ray-Bans and Oakleys, which cost plenty, but there were no Dior, Gucci or Armani sunglasses to be found when I was growing up. Today you can not throw a stick in an optometrist's office without hitting a dozen designer frames. I'm not so vain that I will only wear the latest fashions, but if I'm dropping some money on a pair I prefer to get something that's at least in style right now.

Oversized sunglasses are still in for better or worse. I tried a few frames by Gucci and Prada and laughed because some were so big they looked more like a mask than sunglasses. No, I do not have an especially small face. Like all designer trends, they've taken a step closer to ridiculous in an attempt to be unique. What is new is the variety of lens shapes and colors. I still can not look at them without thinking of Charlie's Angels.

Aviator glasses are also still in, but have an elementone some kind of fashion inflected mutation. Double frames, rose tinted gradient lenses, oh my. These have never been my go to as they just look like dude glasses. It does not matter how well you do your hair, how sexy you dress or even how red your lipstick is, you still look like you're wearing your brother's sunglasses.

Of course cat eye sunglasses are back because they're fabulous. I'm hoping this is a style that never goes away and even if it does I'm still wearing them until the day I die. I had a pair of black and green Armani's with full tint lenses that made the beach at noon look like the dark side of the moon. I tried to find another pair after mine were lost somewhere between Nassau and Chicago, but they do not sell that model anymore which is horrible.

If you do pick up a new pair of sunglasses this summer, remember not to throw your old ones out. Put them in that drawer with all the others so that someday you can pass them on. Plus you never know, they could come back in style.

How to Make a Woman Orgasm – Faster Than You Can Ever Imagine

Let me tell you this fact with all conviction: women agree to sex with you because of the promise of orgasm. You do not have to say this directly to her, it's a given.

As soon as you start, there's this little voice in her head saying, maybe this time I will be able to have the orgasm I am longing for. But the problem with some guys is they do not know about the female orgasm and how it works. They think just because she's enjoying herself, she's fine and content. When a woman starts feeling good, it's the start, but severely the climax she has been waiting for.

For you to really enjoy sex with a woman, and get it often, you have to learn how to make her orgasm fast. If you shudder at the thought of spending two hours thinking about baseball so you will not go before she does, you must learn and master at least one technique that will make her get off faster.

Here are some of these faster female climax strategies you can try –

1. Emotional Sex. Women have to feel like they're being taken for a trip to the moon and back. You must make her feel special, important and beautiful for her to get in her sexual trance. When you get her to that closed eyes, grinding stage, you know you have connected with her emotionally. Remember that women require more than physical stimulation to get off. They need to feel sexy.

2. You must know what floats her boat. I'm talking about how she wants to be touched. As a rule, you should use your tongue and lips only on her sensitive parts, unless she specifically asks for a bite or a nibble. Even then, be gentle. Until you know how exactly she wants it, you have to listen closely for feedback and be wary of the Ouch that really sounds like she's in pain.

If you get these two things done right, you're a step closer to cutting the amount of time it takes to climax by half.

How to Show an Interviewer You Learn Quickly

Every job has a learning curve. Not only do workers have to learn how to do a job when they get it, they also have to be able to pick up new skills while on the job and adapt to changes in responsibilities. Employers want to know that their potential employees will be able to pick up new skills and adjust to their new job quickly. Read on to find out how to show an interviewer that you have this capability.

The first thing you need is an example of when you picked up a skill quickly. Think of a time when you were able to learn to do a new task faster than you were expected to. Maybe you learned the organizational system in a few days instead of a week. It doesn’t have to be something extreme like learning to play piano in a week; stick to small, useful work-related skills that you acquired quickly.

The next example you need is of a time when you became skilled or knowledgeable about something due to hard work. Unlike the first, this is less about speed than about dedication. Give an example that shows that you can stick to it even when you’re learning something that you’re not naturally talented at. This could be a work example or even a school example — if you have a college degree, that’s at least four years of hard work!

Finally, you want an experience that shows you can learn a new skill without having your hand held the whole way. Think of a time when you learned a skill without much help. It could be something as simple as learning to use a new software program at work. A work example is ideal, but if you don’t have one you could use something you studied on your own at home. This is especially good if you learned useful work skills on your own time — it shows that you’re dedicated enough to your career to advance your skills entirely of your own volition.

Be ready to talk about experiences such as these at your next interview. Keep in mind what your interviewer wants to know — that you’re a dedicated worker who learns new skills quickly and easily. Show that you will be able to get into the swing of things immediately and pick up new responsibilities as they come along. If you think about your experiences beforehand, it’s not so difficult.

X-Ray on Sit Tight Leaders in Africa – Dr Robert Mugabe an Example (Part 2)

In the first part of this article, a cursory look at the British foray into the land now known as Zimbabwe in the 19th Century. Recall how Mr. Cecil Rhodes, a British entrepreneur landed in that land in 1871 and systematically through his company, established the British protectorate, with the backing of the British government.

As it were of today, the only long time sitting President in the whole of Africa is Dr. Robert Mugabe. He is in his 37th-year reign. He came into office on 20th April 1980. Now, let us take a critical look at Northern Rhodesia in the course of colonial rule.

Upon the effective set up of the Protectorate, as administered by the company of Mr. Cecil Rhodes, British South Africa Company, there was the growth of commercial activities in the land. There was no increase in the numbers of settlers because of the business opportunities that it afforded. The population grew, and out of this population, 1500 were European settlers. This was barely a year the Protectorate Administration began, that is exactly 1892.

Sooner the European population grew more than this, as the means of transportation created an easy movement to and from the territory. The rail system from the Zambezi developed traversing Kimberley in 1885, through to Bulawayo in 1896, landing at Victoria Falls as the Terminus in the year 1904. The rail system greatly assisted commerce and the movement of people. In honor of the founder of the territory, it was named after him, thus it became Rhodesia in 1895.

The colonialists were without difficulties in the expansionist expedition, it was tough for the British South Africa Company to establish and maintain its presence in some of the new territories. The local people were resistant to these attempts, even though their leader, Lobengula was interested in maintaining peace with the Officials of British South Africa Company. On the contrary, the local people wanted the whites settlers expelled from their land.

The center could no longer hold when in 1893 Mr. Leander Jameson, the Administrator of the Region for Rhodes finds a document of war against Lobengula. It is believed that the document was initiated by the locals. In order to forestall this, and as well as an avenue to have a grip on the region, Mr. Leander Jameson wage a war against the native, deploying five Maxim machine guns fought his way easily to the domain of Lobengula in Kraal at Bulawayo. Lobengula fled, his flight brought to an end the Kingdom of the Ndebele which was founded by his father.

As it is the desire of every colonialist, the European settlers felt that the governance of the Northern Rhodesia should be vested in their hands. In pursuant of this agitation, an insistence that they are represented in the colony’s legislative assembly was always on the table. Note that, in all of these, the natives, that is, the Africans were not considered in the participation of their affairs. This was achieved in 1903; the composition of the legislative assembly was 14 in numbers, 7 from the British South Africa Company and 7 from the white settlers, and none for the Africans who are the owners of the land.

Within the space of 4 years thereafter, the white settlers are now having the majority in the legislative assembly. In 1914, towards the end of the expiration of the 25-year life span of the Royal Charter granted the British South Africa Company, the settlers’ ambition of self-government so blindfolded them that, they were not ready to accommodate another territory. It was the plan of the British Government, to at that time include South Africa in the protectorate. The intention was to enlarge the territory, but the settlers resisted and they had the day.

You may wonder how this was achieved. It was a successful persuasion of the British to extend the Royal Charter for additional ten years. During this decade, even at the exactly 8th year of the extension, there was a referendum that was held to determine whether there should be self-government or not. Of course, the referendum was restricted only to the European settlers, as it excluded the indigenous black owners of the territory.

The result was 60% in full support of internal self-government and the rest 40% against who were in agreement the territory be joined with the Union of South Africa as the 5th province. Thus history was made on the 12th of September 1923, when it became exactly 33 years when the first sets of European settlers came to Harare, Rhodesia became a self-governing crown colony.

Again, the prosperity and success of Rhodesia became much pronounced henceforth, particularly with the increase in the numbers of European settlers. The settlers population grew from 34,000 which was …

Uses and Advantages of Product Placement

Product placement marketing is becoming extremely popular today because it offers many advantages to all parties involved. Branded entertainment promotions have helped many companies to significantly improve their bottom line, especially when linked to movies with a high success rate. The information below will highlight some of the uses and advantages of product placement.

First, let take a look at exactly what is branded entertainment.

Branded entertainment, sometimes referred to as product placement marketing, is a strategy that is used to infuse branded products into various forms of entertainment. Basically, brands would offer monetary consideration to or pay for producers of films, television shows, web videos, video games and other forms of entertainment to include their products in entertainment presentations.

The emergence of movie product placement strategy has coincided with the diminishing interests in the traditional advertising mediums. Many companies discovered that consumers were not paying attention to traditional advertising media, so product placement was incorporated in their marketing strategy to reach a wider audience. Marketers reinvented their strategies and started to place advertisements in popular movies and television shows to capture consumer’s attention.

Uses and Advantages of Product Placement

When marketers started to use branded entertainment strategies, increasingly more companies were seen promoting their products in popular movies and television shows. These advertisements can be seen in popular films such as James Bond featuring Omega watches; Mission Impossible featuring Apple Macs; Men In Black promoting Ray Ban glasses and many popular television shows such as The Apprentice, Top Chef, Project Runaway and American Idol.

As of such, the branded entertainment strategy became a magic potion for marketers. Due to the major success of advertising in movies and TV shows, the marketers move on to the next level and started to use web videos, video games, music videos and other entertainment mediums.

Product placement marketing offers several advantages to manufacturers, producers and movie stars. From the perspective of the marketers, it provided companies with an opportunity to be associated with famous actors and to use movie footage and stills to conveniently advertise other products. As it pertains to the producers and actors, they earned substantial amount in fees as well as the chance to endorse brands in various film festivals.

Musicians also benefit from branded entertainment in their music videos and lyrics. Most artists use the earnings from these deals to offset the overall cost of producing their music videos.

The marketers are also using the Internet to incorporate product placements in songs that music fans would get from YouTube. In this case, the main advantage is that brands would develop higher retention rates in people’s minds whenever the artists perform at shows and concerts.

Overall, product placement and branded entertainment strategies have proven to be extremely effective as more consumers are linking certain products to the names of famous actors and singers. For this strategy to work, the brands must be featured prominently whilst making subtly appearance in movies, television shows, web videos or video games.

Augmented Reality – When Code Comes to Life

By definition, augmented reality is any view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are augmented by virtual computer-generated imagery. As a technology is growing rapidly, and its uses are now broadening to other platforms outside its early introduction in network sporting events.

Typically augmented reality is associated with ultra futuristic, cranial displays such as seen in movies like The Terminator. However, more familiar hardware is actually where we see the innovation of augmented reality heading. The combination of mobile computing and information-heavy, user-generated services have created a breading ground for new augmented reality applications that are pushing the limits on what we thought was possible.

The advancement of microprocessors and mobile computing has transformed augmented reality from a science fiction pipedream to an actual viable technology.

Many of the Smartphone and mobile computing devices on the market today, including the Apple iPhone™ and the Android™ phones, include built-in GPS as well as a compass which intern means that these devices have location detection. This is important because many of the current uses for AR rely on knowing the devices’ location in Cartesian space. Some applications provide directions while others provide location relevant data such as directions, events, and more. Currently, both the Android and the iPhone have AR applications that are available for download. Dishpointer is an example of such an application. The Dishpointer application allows satellite installers to find the nearest satellite. By simply by holding up their phone to the sky, a satellite installer can get a virtual overlay of the nearest satellites line of sight.

Investors are getting into the AR game as well. In early 2010 the eastern Washington state based company Gravity Jack secured $250,000 in investment money for development of a new kind of AR application. The patented augmented reality concepts that Gravity Jack is working on held so much promise that the upstart company actually had to turn away some investors since it has an existing revenue model.

Its not only start-ups that are looking at this technology. Researchers from Research and Markets (R&M) claim that both Apple and Sony are developing wearable, head-mounted video displays while General Motors is working on an AR windshield that uses a compact laser reflection to superimposes messages and graphics on the windshield. The University of Washington is working on a proof of concept augmented reality contact lenses, and though it has only been tested on rabbits, scientists believe that this type of technology will be the future of AR.

A recent trend that has emerged in the AR space is that of using augmented reality code in advertising campaigns. More and more companies are finding ways to utilize AR into their website branding. During the release of the movie Avatar, Coke developed a campaign that allowed users to see a 3D ship appear from their screen. The ship appeared when users held up specially branded coke cans to their webcam. Ray-ban has used augmented reality code on their website in such a way that users can see what various sun glasses will look like when worn.

Many people feel that AR will change the way people interact with the online world. As the technology advances the real world and the online world will become more and more intertwined. Though augmented reality is still really in its infancy as a technology it is something to be watched.

The Real Problem With The Media’s Beauty Standards

Finally, it looks like significant change is happening in the corporate media. No longer are only ultra-thin women meeting its previously very rigid beauty standard – or what it’s really been – an acceptability standard for women.

Women with actual fat on their body (gasp!) are now increasingly represented in mainstream television and even glossy magazines. Not only are they appearing, they are being presented as examples of great beauty.

Sports Illustrated featured on its cover the gorgeous model Ashley Graham in 2016, which made international news because she is by traditional media standards about 70 pounds overweight.

Graham is now going to be a judge on the panel for the show “America’s Next Top Model” with Tyra Banks.

The popular HBO show “Girls” made headlines over the past few years because it revealed actual cellulite on one of the stars of the show. Glamour magazine followed suit by displaying on its cover the four stars, one of them boldly fat, her cellulite purposefully exposed.

Cable TV, YouTube, and other forms of alternative media distribution set the precedent a decade and more earlier. They have allowed us to see real bodies represented on video on a regular basis.

Now, the corporate media itself is changing. Actresses on TV commercials, female weather forecasters, even pop stars… It’s happening. Women who are larger than scarecrow thin are no longer banned from representation as being normal, and even beautiful, people.

What a victory – or so it seems. After all, for decades, feminists, concerned parents, and “plus-size” activists have been objecting to the media’s presentations of ultra-thin women as the measure of female beauty, and the required body type to even qualify to be a star.

They argued that this standard puts almost every woman alive, even lean women, in the “too fat” category, and that it leads many girls and women to develop and anorexia, bulimia, and the kind of dieting that ultimately leads to binging.

Corporations like Dove have listened. The mainstream media are adjusting to these demands. The basic tenets of public discussion on “body image” and the representation of women have shifted. It’s progress, for sure.

But something’s missing here. Something about as big as an elephant in a room.

It’s something that has everything to do with why so many women and girls have “body image” issues in the first place, and why so many develop eating dysfunctions.

That something isn’t simply about an inflexible or unrealistic or even physically unhealthy beauty standard.

It’s also about how women’s beauty is treated. It’s about how women’s bodies, however diverse in size and color and age, are depicted.

To put it in feminist terminology: the problem is sexual objectification.

The Sports Illustrated cover featuring the beautiful Ashley Graham might have sent the message to women who are larger than scarecrow thin that they, too, can be sexually desirable at the weight they are.

But is this a message about respectful desire? Or something else?

Do the photos of the three featured women of diverse body types elicit from the male viewer: a respect for women’s boundaries, an acknowledgement of their self-possession and their complex humanity, and the understanding that a woman’s sexuality is shared only with those a woman chooses to share it with?

Or does it send the message to the male viewer that the complex humanity of women who turn them on isn’t actually real, or doesn’t matter? Does it send the message that women don’t have meaningful sexual boundaries? And that women aren’t selective in whom they choose to share their sexuality with because – just look – these three diverse models who have what many consider to be the best job in the world for women – modelling – are all offering it to the camera and to millions of anonymous male viewers, no criteria needed?

Girls and women don’t develop low self-esteem, body image complexes, and eating dysfunctions simply because their body type isn’t represented in the media.

That’s part of the problem. But it’s not the most important part. In fact, the tight control over an outer beauty standard is actually just a facet of the real, deeper problem – and that deeper problem is the disrespectful portrayal of women. The portrayal of women – and even girls – as sexual objects.

Not every woman will agree that sexual objectification of women is a form of disrespect. Some women feel that embracing that role is a way to claim their femininity, and that the sexual attention they get from that isn’t disrespectful.

I would argue that what they are enjoying is the alleviation of open disrespect and disregard.

For men who have learned to objectify women, the prelude to “getting some” looks sort of like respectful behavior – smiles, nods, attention, maybe some gentlemanly …

Best LED TV 2010-2011

LED TVs have rapidly become incredibly popular, and are clearly emerging as the new standard in televisions. Technically an advanced type of LCD TV, LED TVs have acquired the market enough to fall into a category of their own, and are poised to give older LCD TVs a serious run for the money. The technology allows for a greatly improved picture quality compared to plasma, LCD and DLP TVs. As the price gap narrows between LED TVs and the rest, be sure to check out all the features to choose the best LED TV for you.

Everyone is buying LED TVs, and the smart ones are making sure those TVs are wi-fi compatible. After all, everything is going wireless these days, so why not your TV? Out of all the manufacturers of LED TVs, the brands that stand out by offering wireless capabilities are LG and Samsung. Out of these two, Samsung is the brand that is generally considered the leader of this particular market.

On the other hand, LG's plus points include the fact that their TVs tend to be less expensive while also getting excellent customer reviews. While you're going wireless, be sure to check that your new audio and video devices fit the bill, too – for starts, you can look out Sony's great new wireless Blu-ray player which comes at an attractive price tag.

Thanks to LED technology, added to which is the new line of semiconductors, video images are sharper than ever – you will enjoy deepest blacks, crisp whites and all-round color vibrancy in an overall viewing experience that is nothing short of spectacular. Higher contrast ratios of 500,000: 1 and faster refresh rates at 250 Hz and above mean that you get picture quality that is beyond compare. Lifelike images and crisply displayed motion, even for high-speed content, takes TV viewing into the future.

Not only is the picture quality great on the best LED TVs, but they are designed to use significantly less power. On average, these televisions use 40-50% less power than comparable LCD TVs, making them easy on power resources as well as on your wallet – you'll find yourself paying less each month in utility bills. What's more is that no mercury is used in making these TVs. Mercury is toxic to the environment, and is generally used in LCD TVs so it's great that these TVs are made without this harmful substance.

As a general trend, the best LED TVs in today's market have consistently been coming from Samsung, clearly at the forefront of this technology. Not far behind are brands such as Sony and Toshiba. As the competition gets more fierce, prices of these TVs will consistently be lowered, and quality improved as kinks and bugs are fixed in the performance. Generally speaking it is recommended to go not for the top of the line models but the ones right below, for the best price-and-performance balance to get the best value for your money.

In these cases the performance of the TV is almost always comparable to the top-end model, and features offered tend also to be quite similar, but the difference in price is usually quite significant. In the past months alone, prices on these TVs have been dropping significantly so clearly now is the right time to jump in and buy.
